Hi, all.

Looks like I have a problem with my Q. :(

I had just thoroughly cleaned my car and put the Zaino on! Looked great (took pictures to post, too!) The second time I went out on the road, exited the highway, and smoke was coming from under the hood when I came to a stop!

Dashed around, opened the hood and saw fluid almost everywhere. Red fluid almost hot to the point of burning - was gassing a lot. Dropped a lot of red fluid near the front left tire and down both front wheel wells and onto my nice rims.

Argh! Had to tow the car to Frontier Infiniti from there - do not know what it is. They called me this morning - they had a lot of red fluid all over their driveway and had to clean it up - were not too happy (but that is where the guy yesterday told me to leave it!)

I am hoping it is the power steering pump or hose or something like that. Major leak was just under the car, just inside the front left tire area. The transmission fluid level looks okay, so I am hoping it is not that! That would be too major a fix again, and I have been looking after this one per Dennis's requirements!

Sounds like P/S fluid - hopefully the low-pressure res. -> pump lines. They're not too expensive - the high side lines are much more.

I wouldn't get too upset about Frontier having to clean it up... they get paid for these things and I know they'll charge you plenty for the work (I have several of their invoices in my file for "Q2")

Same thing happened on my Q a few days ago. Hot red fluid everywhere, smoke, and the power steering felt wrong. Im going to have to get a proper jack, jack stands, and get under there and see whats broken. Fortunately, wont cost too much to fix it.

Large amounts of fluid generally mean high pressure leaks, which cost more to fix.

Perhaps Fred can pull the high-pressure line from his donor Q.

I got a tip from T3 today. Have someone get in the car and start it, then have them turn the wheel in one direction all the way and hold it. If you can see tons of fluid splattering out, you know its the high pressure line. I had my stepsister help me out today.

The dealer quoted me just under $300 P&L to have it done. For limping in, they said keep a couple bottles of fluid handy, start driving, then pull over and fill the reservoir when the noise comes up. Keep driving, and repeat until reaching the dealer.

Hi, all.

News is mixed! Turns out it was the transmission fluid! When Frontier installed my transmssion and external transmission cooler (about 20k miles ago), they capped off some lines with T jointed metal section because I had asked them to remove the flow through the radiator.

Well, one of the caps on the T joint exploded (road hazard? High Pressure?) and it spewed transmission fluid. Fortunately, I got the car stopped in time so that there was no issue with the transmission!

They are repairing the joint more carefully this time and refilling the lost transmission fluid. Total cost will be under $125 for the diagnosis, plus leaving it on the lift overnight and periodically clean the fluid off everything! Leaks get everywhere, including down the side of my nicely cleaned car! Hopefully, the Zaino helps me clean it up again.

All out of warranty (beyond the 12k miles)

In the meantime, I splurged. :D Didn't need a loaner because I drove off the lot in a brand new M45! Price deal from Frontier was absolute amazing. Remember the $37k deal from Pleasanton Infiniti? Well, I got mine for way less than that! Including a full Infiniti 100k extended warranty. :)

They are dealing on the M45. Frontier has 4 left now - all of them have the Premium package that I did not want.

Congratulations! I liked the M45 with the Premium and Comfort and Convenience, but the tech package with the $700 premium over the $2K navigation component for the laser cruise didn't make sense. The black dashboard in the lighter interiors seems out of place. A great car, although it didn't inspire me to give up my Q45.

Post on the board and I am sure someone will be glad find a nice warm bed for your garage broken 1995 Q45.

Too bad Yidal8 is in Long Island. Oh well, I went to Broooklyn to get my Seattle Q45.

Agreed on the Tech package. I wanted the Comfort and Conv package, but they did not have a car with it and not also have the Premium package (which I did not want).

Fortunately, interior colors or the exterior color for that matter, does not bother me per se - driving it is fun. :) Better handling than my 95 Q ... the fun almost takes me back to when I bought the 1991 Q many years ago! It handles better than that one too!

FWIW, I did not want to give up my Q either, but my wife wanted me to make sure my car was very reliable when transporting my son and his friend to school every morning. The transmission fluid trouble (she and my son were in the car when it happened) triggered her reaction to "make it so" as soon as possible. Hence the splurge! :DQuote »Post on the board and I am sure someone will be glad find a nice warm bed for your garage broken 1995 Q45. [/quote]I intend to do so as well as on eBay soon too.

That would be cool, Fred! :)

I also just wanted to add that my price for the M45 was less than many of the G35 coupes that are being sold! :D

Infiniti dealers are really motivated to move the current M45 out for the new replacement model due in later!

Thanks! :) My wife and I are both enjoying it a lot - she has gotten to drive it more than I have, but my turn will come.

I cannot believe that you cannot get one at Penisula??? If not, just open up the Yahoo Yellow pages and start finding dealships in Sac, Fresno, Modesto, etc and see if you can make a deal over the phone. YOu can get them to deliver it locally anyways.

I almost did the same thing a year ago when I first saw the M45 as I was taking my Q in for regular maintenance. I really like the looks and styling of the M45 and went for a test drive and my jaw about dropped on how fast it was. The only thing that I did not like about it was that I could not hear the engine or exhaust enough. Anyway....I thought long and hard about it and said "no" as I have always wanted a convertible and this thing is far from being a convertible. Now...if they had these deals on them a year ago, you bet ya that I would be driving a new M45. The best that they could do a year ago was $46,500 for me and would not move an inch. The car had just arrived to all the dealers about 2 weeks earlier so they had higher hopes on sales than they do now and did not want to sell me a new car.

I have 113K on my 95Q45 and I am really considering trading it in on an 2003 M45. Only if I can get a good deal. I love my Q, and have maintained it way to well to give up. However, @ 120K I will need a tune up for $800.00 new tires, rotors, and pads for over $1K. I need to pull the plenum clean and replace hoses for $800.00 and I have a sensor that leaks a little transmission fluid, transmission needs to be dropped to fix $800.00. Than per the mileage Q45 tech says I'll need to replace the fuel pump 300 to 400 hundred. I already have mobil one in everything since 50K wth regular changes, and new tockico blues all the way around, upper links & tension rods. But after all that money things may still break.....so I am thinking instead of doing all that work to save the 4-5K and just turn in it on a 03 M45. They are sweet. I have not driven one yet but I'm sure I'll like it. Rsiwicki, is the M way faster on the freeway? Is is just as smooth?

The M45 is faster than a first-gen Q for sure. Until you hit 147 mph when the rev limiter kicks in - the original Q would do 155! :D

The M45 engine is quiet and smooth and just a joy to drive. Gives me the same grin on my face as when I first bought my 1991 Q way back when! :)
