I have done ALOT of crap to my motor, but, this is my first time taking off my head. I have the cams aligned to TDC and doesn't seem like I can get a small enough socket in to get at the head bolts. Is there a special tool for this?

Sorry for the virginal question, but, it is my first time...lol

no special tool needed. stock cams? i don't remember with the stock cams, but i think they might need to come out first. are you trying to avoid removing the cams? you will see relief indentations on the shaft that lets you get a socket by. i know the tomei's have this so you can remove the head without taking out the cams. might take some gentle movement of the cam gear to get it aligned properly, but check for the reliefs first. if there arent any the cams need to come out.

please disregard my stupidity.

the top of the bolt is filled with oil and I didnt see that its some sort of torx bolt. I can easily fit a torx bit into the relief indentation.

Wait, there's a torx bit on the top or an allen bit? Are you sure those aren't ARP head studs with 12-point nuts on them? The standard hex socket will not fit over the 12-point nuts.

OEM head bolts are actual bolts with hex heads on them.

Stock cams and Tomei cams have recesses in the sides of them to allow you to reach the head nuts without removing the cams. HKS cams do not have this hugely convenient feature.

its actually a hex, 8mm or 10mm.

And stock cams DO have recesses, although I don't know if they are accessible at TDC.

are you sure you're not trying to remove the freeze plugs?
