My 1995 240sx (~132k miles) has been working quite well since I bought it, except in the past month it has started to emit a high pitched whine when I rev the engine. It's not very loud, the stereo easily drains it out, and it hasn't seemed to affect performance at all. It sounds like an RC car when I rev the engine.
Recently my battery died twice unexpectedly, so between the two symptoms I assumed an alternator belt or the alternator itself. I took it to Pep boys today, and they said the alternator was fine, and blamed the corroded battery terminals, which they replaced. On the way home I noticed the car still made the whine, and when I got home I turned off the car, then turned it on again to look at the belts while the car ran.
The engine started and the car idled fine, but the electrical system completely failed to turn on. The dashboard, the stereo, even the power locks, nothing works.
What do I do?!
I don't think I can afford to take it to the stealership.
Any and all help is appreciated.
