are vvt problems common

so ive been trying to figure out what is wrong with my car and wondering why it has this loud tick that comes when the engine is warming up. So, does the sr20 have alot of vvt problems, ive been watching videos on youtube of the same sound that mine has and alot of responses are the vvt. any advice, and how much am i lookin at to have that fixed,

I'm not sure what you mean by a TICK. But, it is pretty common to have a ... really metallic rattle sound starting up and moving the car after a longer period of parking time. Apparently it's the oil not reaching the VVT pump?actuator? whatever mechanical part that deals with VVT is, it doesn't receive enough oil right away, hence the noise. I don't think anyone has posted a 100% fix yet.

fix is to replace the VVT system with an S13 intake cam. that's what we did on my friends SR. Was building it anyways.

then you can find a plug for the VVT actuator or just leave that ugly *** thing there.

Keep/fix your VTC/VVT/NVCS whatever you want to call it. Here is some good info for ya:

nissan VTC sprockets are notoriously noisey! this doesn't really help, but see if you can find any information on wether Nissan ever released a TSB on this issue for the S14/15. I know that the US spec Maximas were HORRIBLE about it, and the only solution there was to actually replace the sprockets.... and no, i don't think that they are interchangable.

my S14 SR20DE makes a metallic rattle whe you rev just past idle. how can you tell if the VTC solenoid is bad or not? my car has a really, really, really crappy low end. i mean civic's have better low end than this, so im wondering if it might be the VTC solenoid. thanks.
