For all those people who have car magnets that attract uncaring individuals who don't give a rat's butt about damaging your vehicle and driving off. Here's another option.

I'm still smarting from some douche-bag who broke my license plate frame and nick paint off my front bumper.

simple yet effective!

That's a really good idea! It sticks out a bit too much for my liking, but I like the basic premise.

The rear? Oh your at the mercy of the uncaring population if they chose to hit and run the rear of your Rogue.

As for me, its the very reason I have a black powder coated single steel tube protecting my rear bumper. Also have heavy duty protective stick-on rubber bumpers strategically located on the corners and even above the tube.

I'm old school. I love the good old days of rubber and steel bumpers. Aerodynamics and todays modern looks are great but not when some idiot behind the wheel with their crap mobile is dinging the hell out of your vehicle because they don't give a hoot.

I'm with you on this one, my back bumper is cracked from someone hitting it, this winter I was hoping someone would carelessly nudge it at a stop so I could just get the thing replaced. At a minimum of $600 for the bumper cover including paint I'm not excited to replace it myself!

Mine got hit by a shopping cart I think. I called the police and asked them check the video from the supermarket but they wouldn't do it, and the manager of the store never called me back.

I'm not getting any of it fixed for now because it'll probably happen immediately afterwards if I did fix it lol

The cheapest way to protect your car from dings is to buy a few patriotic stickers or emblems. I like my license plate frame. Probably the only chrome I would do on my Rogue. Anyways, people SEEM not to hit my vehicle because it would be unpatriotic perhaps? Who knows.

Well I just added the Black steel tube only 2 weeks ago. It was lying around until it warmed to 50 degrees. I know people think this is ugly. Trust me in a perfect world I would leave the smooth clean lines and aerodynamic looks. But we live in a world where people don't know how to park in their own personal car space. I chose black because it does not stand out as much on my dark car. Yes, people in the forum might say its UGLY with all this junk and STICK-ON CRAP. But people dinging my car is a greater peeve and takes priority on my list personally. The tube is mostly to protect from dings at a parking lot. And intimidating factor??? People don't want to drive too close so they won't ding their paint on my steel tube? I'm planning to get black bullbars. Personally I like how all this stuff looks on my vehicle. More rugged-looking. As for weight all this adds? It is no more than having an average weighted male passenger in your rogue. As for myself, I am a welterweight. And for milegage? As I said the dings bother me more than having the best mpg. I still get around 21mpg in the city where I drive mostly. This is exact spot where a truck backed into my bumper and nicked my paint. I covered it with this heavy duty bumper. I only waxed my bumper so it look good when I put online. But we just had some snow yesterday and all the sand and salt was on it. I did't wax or even clean the side of my Rogue but it looks all wrinkled at this angle lol. The reflections make it look that way. I should have took pictures on a blacktop at a shopping center. All these reflections are from my neighborhood. Trust me no damage is there. Just a shiny paint job reflecting.

4Bumpers works great for the front of the Rogue but not for the rear. Because it attaches at the license plate level it works when the license plate is in the bumper and not above in the trunk or hatch. So it would work great on both front and rear bumpers for 2010 Versa Hatchback, Cube (see their website media button), 370 Z Coupe, G Sedan, G Coupe and G Convertible. I agree with Casperfun that it is "simple yet effective" and have enjoyed the benefits with my bumpers.

I actually got the idea about these steel tubes in this forum. Unfortunately, the next post was from a forum member calling it ugly. I understand, as it could be too obtrusive to the discerning eye of a Nissan Rogue enthusiast. After I got the nerf bars, they were hardly noticeable from afar. You really need to look closely to even notice them since they blend nicely into the background with my dark vehicle and the blacktop of the road. Hence, I decided to buy the rear tube.

You must decide if hanging some tube behind your ride and it aesthetic looks on your Rogue offsets the greater issue of idiots w/no conscience who casually drive off into the sunset after nicking your bumper paint. If you don't mind people playing bumper cars with your vehicle and the resulting nicks. Then I don't recommend getting it and stay with the Rogue's clean lines.

As for the stainless steel, it is more noticeable and can be construed as ugly. But if your into Chrome. I think they actually look good with stainless steel nerf bars. I guess it matters what color your vehicle is. My opinion is that the stainless steel has that more obvious truck-like look. The reason I picked black powdered everything is because it's less obvious in appearance. A more subtle look as you might say. I still have my nissan 3M bumper protector lying in a box. Still need to put that on when the weather warms.

Ok, I got my black tubes which are usually cheaper than the stainless steel stuff at autotoysusa.com for $180 w/free shipping. The brand is Black Horse.

Real easy to install but you need an extender on your ratchet wrench to reach the bolts on the passenger rear sides. It me a tad longer when I had to to improvise with my tool set by adding adaptors and tweaking my technique because I didn't have the right extender. It would probably take 20-30 minutes if your good with tools. Real easy!

kinda ugly? what you think? Looks alright on a Gotham Grey Rogue

Yah, that was my initial concern too. Looks like you would just hit and drive on top of it.

But I'm trying to diminish the chances. Which is why I am using it in conjunction with that ugly stick-on.

But if you take a typical mid-size car like a 2010 Toyota camry. Just measured my dad's. The point of contact for the front end would be around 15 1/2 inches and 18 inches for the rear. Considering the full dimensions of the front Toyota bumper, it would definitely tap the bar if somebody nudges your Rogue.

My black powdered steel tube is around 18 inches in height at the lowered mid portion of the bar. You can adjust it from 18-20 inches more or less if you want. I prefer it farther away from the body which makes it look lower. I was going to put it closer to make it higher, but I just re-tighten it. Plus it blends with the black portion under my bumper.

Nothing is perfect, and this goes with protecting it fully. Against a huge truck or SUV, might not help but for the smaller to mid-size cars, hopefully it will reduce the number of nicks against this vehicle type. Remember, our Nissan Rogues are higher than the average vehicle.

The best parking philosophy is to just park anywhere and let the natural course of the universe take over. It seems after you park on the farthest corner of the planet and still get your door smashed by a uncaring human being when they exit their car, then for the next 100 years when you don't care where you park, that is usually the time it will never get hit again.

Well I just added my bullbars. And for the hell of it, I also ordered the 4bumpers license frame bumper protector.

People might think this is ugly, but not the inner-UGLY I feel when I return to my Nissan Rogue after 10 minutes of shopping in a Wal-mart only to find my license frame protector broken and my bumper paint banged up by an inconsiderate driver.

First of all, I always wanted the bullbars ever since my Wal-mart incident.

So why the 4bumper frame? Because I was intrigued by it. I guess it's also there so my bullbars won't get scuffed up by the same people who broke my frame? lol! Just kidding.

The Bullbars will back up the 4bumper frame if people come at a angle, who knows!? Every little bit helps as far as I feel.

I also got the 4bumper frame because it's really not that obvious when you look at it. Moreover, I knew I could adjust my bullbars where I could make it even less noticeable by adjusting the bullbar enought to hide and camouflage it as much as possible.

But you need to put it in the upright position (slightly higher than recommended) or you end up potentially getting the bottom part pushed inward and the top part torn off since there is no back support on the lower part of the rogue license frame bracket.

In my area, it seems there is a 2-1 ratio for suv's and trucks, so I guess the 4bumper frame has a high probability of protecting against these bumpers.

If your not into tubes all over your vehicle. I understand on how it might ugly up your vehicle. But if your the type who hates it when people ding your Rogue and want to have an option to prevent it. Then here is an option perhaps. When my Rogue was bare, I wished I had a big ol' bull bar like those big trucks so when an uncaring driver hits me, their paint would be either chipped by it or they would become way too afraid to park near my truck-like bull-bars. But I'm not hoping my vehicle hurts anybody's vehicle, so I also purchased some thin bumper protectors that I will strategically place on my front and back tubes so to cushion the bad hit & run bumper car drivers in our everyday parking lot. peace y'all

As you can see, I also rearranged my stick-on bumpers to make it look more natural and the height where most conventional vehicles would usually hit.

My bullbars to bully back at those inconsiderate hit & run bumper scoff·laws!

My partner in crime, my good ol' 4bumper frame! I painted the 4bumper logo black so the frame won't be so obvious. Sorry 4bumper, still love ya guys! great product! I also painted my bullbar to give it a little accent. Just kidding. Actually there was a portion of the black powder coat that was too faded for my taste and I had it good at first, then I overdid it cuz I messed up the clear enamal spray. SO I just repainted it the way it looks now with the flat black design. Unique!

For anybody interested. ALL my tubes, hood protector, wind deflectors cost me around $700. The price of a mid level laptop or top of a line cell phone, with no 2 yr contract of course. lol!

I actaully got free shipping on ALL the TUBES. Plus no taxes! Love online shopping. ALL delievered within 3 days with the company I bought from.

You can get the hood guard here:http://www.wooddash.com/item/N...009_2

They are quiet and don't make any noise at 8o mph when I drive.

You can get the rain guards on ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...ories

The weathertechs only sell front ones. So I got the AVS. There are other ones from the pics I see on other Rogue that I thought look better, but I could find only AVS when I wanted to buy a 4 piece.

Both really easy to install!

Heh, I'm starting to worry about the unibody here. Most of the time there is a frame to attach all that stuff to.

Exactly. There isn't much structure to attach all of these components to. And in the event of a collision 2 things can happen:

1) It concentrates the forces on a few points causing more damage to the body than if there was no bull bar at all.

2) Instead of the bumper absorbing energy in a crash as it's designed to, it gets transferred to the rest of the vehicle and the occupants inside it. In effect, the bull bar can negate some of the safety features designed into the vehicle. Car structures are designed to absorb and dissipate energy by crumpling. Yes, there may not be much left of the car, but you have a far better chance of walking away from it.

Another point: Pedestrian safety

The UK and Australia have laws that prescribe the types of bull bars that can be used... or outlaw them altogether. Many auto mfg's have also spent considerable resources designing hoods and bumpers that will better protect pedestrians in the even of collision.

I don't expect the US and Canada to introduce similar laws (I think there would be a mass protest), but it is happening in other countries.

Good points Philipa, I can't imagine adding all this steel really fits into the safety design of either this vehicle or in the unfortunate event that there is a collision, the other vehicle. These cars are meant to actually absorb the energy of the impact and protect the occupants in both cars. Are these steel bars going to fly off and injure or kill someone?

I'm sorry, I just cannot agree that these are a good idea on a car with a unibody system.

Hello everybody, how you doin? I’m fine folks.

I believe the Rogue is built with a open c-channel and not a fully box frame like a Tacoma which is more sturdy.(correct me if i am wrong folks) So if your crumple zones would be tested someday, your frame would be damaged anyways. Unlike a Tacoma (stiffer frame) who would probably survive a little ole lady crashing into them at 30 mph with zero damage to the frame but ending up with $12,500 cosmetic and front suspension damage. Actually read it online so it’s a fact. And there are so many other variables like Cost, Weight, Stiffness, Fatigue strength, Package, Resonant frequency, Energy absorbsion in several crash scenarios. With that said, I am no car engineer expert and this view may be simplistic in nature.

Well I would like to give my 2 cents worth. When I first purchased the Rogue, I was interested in modifying it to make it unique. Initially I was interested in perhaps adding a bullbar, but after reading about the more damage it would cause to the frame and how it would effect the crumple zones…yada..yada..yada, I decided it was not worth it AT THE TIME.

So life goes on; and I am enjoying my beloved Rogue. Then one day, as you might have read earlier in my post, I return to my Rogue after only a 10 minute stop at the local Wal-mart. The real story was I was walking to my vehicle from the rear so I did not see the front damage until the next day when I was cleaning my bumper and seeing my PLASTIC license plate protector broken. You know how hard you have to hit something plastic to break? Fortunately, the bracket on the bumper in my opinion absorbed much of the force. After further inspection, I saw some paint chips which I knew was not there either! (before this incident.)

So I ask the masses how would you honestly feel after you purchased your new vehicle and somebody came up to your Rogue and took a ball point hammer and chipped your paint for the hell of it and broke an accessory and walked away?

You may be saying, “caspy, come on, lighten up its just a minor paint chip and your broken license protector“

Well my reply is, “It’s still my hard earned money no matter how little or much it is” I’m just tired of inconsiderate people hitting other’s vehicles and driving on the merry day as if nothing happened. My rational thinking is “if somebody damages your vehicle than that is considered vandalism”. And I’m not going to sugar coat it. Why can’t people respect other people’s property?

“Well caspy, it was an accident.”

Come on, how hard is it to DRIVE out of a parking spot. Thinking I was safe with a freaking out of the ordinarily WIDE parking space with an ISLAND (curb) on my left and plenty of space with a white truck and their REAR facing me. How the heck can damage still find my vehicle? Either these individuals need driving lessons or they don’t be need to be behind the wheel in a parking lot no less.

So what do I do? I get upset for a few moments and I decide to be pro-active and wonder what options I could do. Which led me to begin this thread. As you can see.

So let’s discuss a few things with my opinions on the matter just to help those considering these type of options & issues.

-Bullbars are dangerous for pedestrians. Do I agree? Yes…..Do I ALSO agree that a vehicle in general running into you could be just as Fatal or Dangerous? Yes.

But I don’t live in Australia where it’s controversial. And I am not planning into smashing into a roo any time soon.

I understand that in high metropolitan cities like New York or Chicago that is pedestrian high during the working day it could be bad for these walkers who might jump in front of you like a roo. But I live in a small urban-mid sized city where everyone lives in there car which means everybody loves driving there car to get to point A to point B.

In the past 20-30 yrs of driving, I never had a pedestrian used as a hood ornament and hoped I never get into a situation like one. If you have a problem with pedestrians hitting your vehicle, then I suggest you don’t get bullbars to diminish these people from being more damaged by your vehicle. Moreover, lately a lot of people in my local news have people being ran over and KILLED by a vehicle because of carelessness, speeding, or a drunk and not one of them had bullbars. You hear about the hit and run’s all the time in the 6 o-clock news. I here more news about SUV's backing into a child killing them and children suffocating in a car trunk more than the news about a a vehicle with a bullbar killing somebody (Never saw in news). As you can see on my Rogue, the bull bar is not above the hood of the vehicle. So the point of impact would be the same whether it was the bare Rogue or not. And anybody would be hurting if they got hit by any vehicle.

I don’t know if it is the low price of gas these past couple of years, but I am seeing more regular Suv’s, and the huge Escalades, Lincoln Navigators, Trucks, and even Hummers lately. Geez, I even feel unsafe as majority of the vehicles on the road even dwarf my mini-murano jr.

But I know bullbars have helped people prevent damage to their vehicles for the people who live in the rural areas where they are more inclined to hit a deer. What would have been $3000 in damage is just a scuffed up bullbar and vehicle with $0 damage that needs to be only wiped and cleaned.

Now to the major issues of frame damage that people always bring up. Yes, I feel that there would be frame damage. But I am choosing options that apply to my situation. As I said in the previous 20-30 yrs of driving the crumple zones have never been an issue since I never been in major accident where I was in a vehicle that was damaged that bad. God-willing I will go to my grave not having to experience it, (crossing my fingers.)But I am a gamb|ing man, people play the lottery, slots, crap, & 18 wheelers are always a hair away from running you over, so I will gamble and hope I never get in that 25-35mph window where an accident might ruin my frame.

Speaking from my LIFE experiences only, the MAJORITY of vehicle damage I get is when my vehicle is innocently parked. So what works for me, may not work for your particular situation. Well I can’t make my Rogue into a big nerf ball, but I did like the idea how the Saturn vehicles were hard to dent. So how do I personally feel about the bull bars in a major crash? My general opinion is that if I was in a major head on collision, the bullbars would be SMUSHED, yes I meant the mush in SMUSH, and yes I am trying to use that word to kinda explain what I mean.

Do I think the bullbars will smush the passenger’s and my face in a accident? I am 99.5% don’t feel it would. I think the crumple zones would work bullbars or not. It’s just another piece of metal (yes connected to my frame) that is just re-arranged and moving around in an automobile accident. Yes, the metal tube (bullbar) is part of the equation in an accident. I think the crumple zone will work if a car was smashing into me; if a bull bar was attached to the front of the Rogue or not. And if you have to deal with surviving a accident where your crumple zone has been seriously compromised, your Rogue will most likely be considered a write-off by your insurance company. Heck, they say after your airbag goes off, that it could be a write-off then and there. Another topic to say the least that I won’t get into. Moreover, worrying about damage to your frame would be mute at this point.Okay, back to the bullbars. In a collision, will it prevent the crumple zone from doing its job? It may… I gamble that all the implemented Nissan Safety features in general and that the crumple zones will in the end protect me. So will the bullbars accelerate the crumple zone? Yes, so will an 18-wheeler and a big mac eventually will be bad for my health too . Everyday people are driving around with a potentially 60mph - 1 and half ton driving bullet. Does it stop people from driving? Moreover, we talking frontal impact where the bullbar is located and not other areas where accidents happen around the perimeter of your vehicle.

I was researching websites that were anti-bullbar, and I understand some of the issues. But then they may show cartoon illustrations where it can kill you but then they show a real accident where the bullbar did not magically bend-over and actually hit the driver. Or if it was the REAL reason for any fatality to a driver if there was one.

For example a website would show this:

But then show a real picture of this on the same website:

"Freed...ambulance officers and firefighters help a man who was trapped by his legs in a car crash" - say no more!

Come on, the bullbars are barely damaged let alone personally touching the driver where it might have caused bodily damage.

So if you believe you would be in a low speed accident, I suggest don’t get it since it will ruin your frame in all liklihood, to what extent and cost in damage I don‘t know. I got the bullbars for looks but MAINLY for frontal protection in a parking lot. All in all, I am here to express my life experience and people must choose to do what is best for them. I chose, “Peace of mind” in my case. Of course I am not here to micro-manage every little dent that is bound to happen from inconsiderate drivers, but I want to know at least I tried something in my conscience. I am not here to encourage or discourage. I just think its not a black and white issue with bullbars and there is a lot of gray area. With that said. My purpose is to comment, inform, and to enlighten on this particular subject on bullbar (tubes). As this forum has enlightened and inspired me to modify my Rogue to the way it looks now. And I am very happy with it. There will always be benefits and pitfalls.

I didn't actually take the time to read your entire post... rather I just skimmed over it.

I'm not trying to discourage you from modifying your vehicle... I just like to point out how some modifications can affect the way your vehicle can perform. It's also useful for other owners who can make an informed decision on whether to mod their vehicle or not.

The ridiculous 5 post bull bar was a joke BTW, I was just showing how it could be taken to the extreme.

Oh yah, I forgot to make the point that I KNEW that some people may skim because I know I WROTE too much...lolz.

I won'be be offend if people skim. I do it all the time. Actually, its for people who are interested in perhaps getting a bullbar.

My post is also for the people who might be bored and want sometime to read for the heck of it. Sometimes I get so bored after reading everything I need to go back and read stuff from 3 years ago in this forum. AND I actually learned alot.

Ok enuff said.
