When I bought my car, I was also given the internals to a R32 GT-S R200 LSD. I have seen some pictures of different types of LSD's, but for some reason, this doesn't look like most I see in the pics.

Is it really a LSD? I am worried that I may have just been given some open diff parts maybe?

If it is a LSD, and I am going to install it, would it be a good idea to have a transmission shop do the work (I would remove diff and take to them). I don't think I could correctly measure and adjust the shims for the output shafts, etc.

Here are the pics:

It's not an LSD. That's just an open diff.

hmmm.

well then it's probably not from a R32 GT-S. Any clue what car it could be from, with the 5x1 output shaft bolt pattern?

are you a thousand percent sure? in the first pic, the top center, thats what im questioning. maybe i have to take apart my extra open diff that i have and closely inspect the peices.could this be a hlsd? found in the s15?

the single bolt 5 flange output shafts are found in the 180sx, and the eariler infiniti j30s (all j30s are vlsd). (95-96 have 2bolt tri flange). i dont know about newer j30s then 96 which output shafts those are.

Quite a few people on other board believe that this is the VLSD from a R32 GT-S, so I wasn't mislead.

Here's a pic of an open diff, which this definatly isn't.

I need to make sure it's a VLSD so I use the correct fluid.

Wouldn't there be mechanical clutches in a normal LSD?

How can I tell that this VLSD is in good operating condition before I install? Or is it hit or miss?

that's a vlsd. That sealed disc is a dead giveaway.
