Are these cars loud? (Buying an 88 NA)

Hello everyone,

My son is planning on buying an 88 and we took it for a test drive today.
It seemed to run good and shifted smooth.
Although, listening to the engine I felt like we were driving a truck (no odd sounds just loud).
Is this common?

The first time I drove mine, it definitely sounded a bit louder than most cars I'd driven before. It may just be down to it having less sound insulation than a modern car- the road and engine noise was also greater than in a newer car.

Yeah, I was thinking maybe less sound insulation.
Was quiet when cruising reminded me of a dump truck when accelerating.

Either way, he bought the car so, let the fun begin!
(didn't seem as loud to me, driving it home)
