Are there any other Y50's out there with a 4.083 rear end?

What are you talking about? The rear differential?

LOL....that's gotta hurt the gas mileage! I can't imagine those in my M45. I bet it launches pretty damn hard though.

Yes, I had the VLSD pumpkin installed, and then I upgraded the ring & pinion.

Gas mileage has dropped from 16.2 to 15.9 mpg overall.

And yes, it pushes you back in the seat nicely.

Is it more for the m35 or m45? does it kill your HP? not that we ever get our cars up over 100+mph. What rpm is it running around around 70+mph

my car does 100+mph all the time I get a chance too, even with my low drop. She's been in the 140 mph range a few times.

biggest rear I had was 3.73 in 2 different 5.0's and I always told myself I wouldn't go any higher.

I did have 4 something in my buggy but that was a different kind of system

LOL. Coincidentally, I S-M-O-K-E-D a new 5.0 today.

At 80mph, I wanna say I am ~ 3500 rpm.

I don't feel any hp were killed or harmed in the making of this film.

I just used that Ken in AZ post from a couple of years ago and added the 4.083 gears to the mix myself--I had them on my G35 too.

It's a shame there aren't any active M sites.

Glad to know you have smoked a new 5.0 Mustang:

5.0L V8 Engine
The Mustang 5.0 engine pays homage to the original 5.0, delivering 420 horsepower* and 390 lb.-ft. of torque.

My old mustang only had 225hp as it came from the factory before I added any mods.

I need to check my rpms on my M45 as she is when I'm doing 80mph

Sorry but your answer doesnt really help. Did you get a new pumpkin, half shafts, or just get 4.08 gears and put it in the oem stuff? As for smoking a new 5.0 did he know you were racing? I can see maybe you winning from 0-40 from them trying to get traction but no way in a 1/4 mile. Im sure the gears make the car faster but not gain a hundred whp lol. If you could please post more details about the swap and if you want to further explain this 5.0 encounter :bigthumb:

LOL... None of these questions help with my original one. I assume the answer is no.

I followed Ken in AZ's cliff note instructions (2008 G37S 5AT pumpkin and axles) on his thread and added the 4.083 ring & pinion.

As for the "encounter," smoked was certainly hyperbole: I had him by half a car length up to 70 when I backed off. His car had stickers too which should gave garnered him another 5hp each.

Four years later... and my old A car still pulled on a QS5. I had it by two car lengths when I let up at 100mph uphill.

And yes, to the Florida Gator, the Audi is a V6.

I know its an old thread, but I figured I should point out that by going to 4.083 ratio from stock, he gains 21% torque at every RPM. That is a significant increase and is especially handy in the low rpm range for the "get up and go'ness"

@clintguy
You ever thought about moving to the highest ratio Nissan sells, the 4.36? That would put you at a 29% torque increase over stock. If you arent doing major power mods (turbo, super) then it would be a great mod to do. If you are going FI of course the whp will be so high that a ratio like that would probably just make you spin tires all day long. lol
And I have to ask, cause I was the second person who has ever done this swap on an M after Ken's post, how did you get the gears to fit your diff? Did you go with a manual diff to begin with and swap the driveshaft connection? Or did you have an automatic differential and when you put these gears in swap out the whole back plate on the diff? I had (have?) a set of 4.083s I bought a LONG time ago cause I wanted to do the swap, but they wouldnt fit right and never got around to making it work.
