I am about to buy a 2008 Infiniti G35 from the US, I am looking into changing the gauge cluster into one that reflects KMs prominently rather than miles. So I do not have to squint. The part probably would cost me $200-$300.

1. I asked everythinginfiniti and all the could answer me about getting a Canadian part was .. NO.. 2 letters thats all they bothered with.

2. If I manage to get the cluster off, Is it as simple as pluggin in the new one? And putting everything back? Would the odometer also change to KMs now or will it still read in Miles...

this is very important to me and I would appreciate some solid tech info THANKS

These would be totally unknown to us in US you will have to deal with Nissan in Canada. The US parts warehouses are totally separate from those in Canada. I would expect you would have to change more than just the speedometer assemby?

Thanks for the reply, I am assuming you are talking about the odometer issue.

You did not comment about the changing of the gauge cluster, is swapping it out as easy as plug and play?

I am still looking under the files for the tech manual and am looking to see where that would be listed under.

You can set it thru your computer manually whatever you want. I can change on mine from km to mile in 1 minute. Simple setting. Don't have worry about it.

With the part yes you have to go to the Infiniti Canada service dept. nearest you. As Q said.

when you say set thru comp.. yes i have seen that, what does that change exactly? Let me know. I dunt think it flips the speedometer from big numbers in miles to km and vice versa LOL I think it does only read out stuff.. like trip meter etc right? is the odometer digital? can anyone try switching from km and miles versa see if it sticks?THANKS

Sorry Daniel wasn't clear,

Yes it only changes the digital reading you still have to change the numbers to bigger km and smaller miles.

If you are about to make a purchase perhaps an Infiniti dealer located in the US but near the border can order you a vehicle with Canadian Specs?

I was able to order my 1966 VW Beedle in Germany with US specs when I was in the US Army. That was a long time ago.

hey thank guys for the response:

zozo, is the odometer old school or digital, and do you know if that changes?

telcoman.. I doubt so, doesnt work that way (Now) if not no one would need to modify incoming US vehicles to meet specs omg 1966.. I was soo not even close to being born.. think more than a decade later LOL

So still waiting to hear from techs to see if changing a gauge cluster just involves swapping them out, plug and play kind of thing...

Your best bet would be just walk in any Infiniti service dep. and ask them.

zozo

You can check out the sevice manual on the top of the main page.

Yeah I am checking... but I cannot seem to find the instructions for disassemblng the cluster.

And from reading the tech manual and oners manual, I think the odometer is digital/dot matrix if I am not wrong, so it could possibly be set to Kms

Hey I'm looking at importing a US G35x into Canada next year. If you find out how much a new instrument cluster cost, could you tell me.

I have my own manual on disk. I send you a copy from the service manual and you can find it. When you check it it is at page 11 under J body interior and instrument panel disassemble.

hey zozo thanks i got ur email i see that IP section i have it, but it tells u how to take apart the whole thing... not specifically the gauge nor does it go into detail about how the gauge connects etc. the closest is "cluster lid assembly" i doubt thats the actual cluster

but thanks !!!

Hey if anyone finds a cluster let me know where! I am trying to get one to use for spare parts when messing with the LED's. THey won't let you buy them from the dealership because they think you are up to no good when you start asking for gauge clusters...
