Are the wastegate solenoid and boost pressure sensor important?

I have these wired into my harness, but not hooked to any vac lines.

I was just wondering their actual purpose.

i have however thought of using the boost solenoid somehow to get traction in first gear w/o spending the dough for my dream AVC-R (gear-dependent boost control, oh yeah!). i've heard it limits boost to ~7psi, but only in first gear . . . don't know if this is actually true. if i cared enough i'd search. but mine are just wired in with no lines on them, too.

well your wastegate setting is 7psi if u dont have a Boost controller. so it should be 7psi all the way through.

i yanked mine out cause with the sensor in, i was boosting at 13psi.... was fun for a while but i just didnt trust it. i yanked it out, and simplified all my vaccum lines, and i run 7 psi now.
