I did a search and found that some of the Bose speakers are interchangeable but it never went into detail as far as which was interchangeable. I know that the head unite is more specific, but after my research I feel like some of the Bose component speakers may be interchangeable between other make and model cars. I did read though, that Bose did produce speakers specifically for each car and cabin, including weather the car had vinyl, cloth or leather.

Was there a major difference in Bose speakers from 1994 to 1998? I suspect they may be but I figured some on here has changed, upgraded, or repaired their Bose speakers.

Most definitely not true. Each speaker in each model is equalized for that car's interior.

In my opinion, the FGY33 Bose is a little better than the G50 Bose.

Thanks Max, that helps out allot. Are the speakers in the 1994 Q45T rated 2 Ohms per speaker?

Something like that, but one needs to realize thatactual speaker impedance is frequency dependent. Usually what is quoted is referenced to a set frequency like 1KHz.

Your right. I probably have to consider magnet size as well and wiring. I don't know the gage size of the wires used on OEM set up. It may be cheaper to get better gage wiring. I did this once when I replaced speakers in a 1990 car. I purchased good gage wires and the sound was super crispy after wards.

I am not looking for a super loud sound system, and am extremely happy with what a OEM Bose system can do for cabin enjoyment. What I have noticed is that on certain songs the base peaks out as if it was turned up to high. It would be equal to being in the recording studio and having some ones vocals red-line which even though the volume is low or on mids their pitch is to high.

Then on other songs all the levels are great. I may consider a newer head unit but no time soon, in fact not even in the next couple of months but one day. I am also considering the fact that I am using MP3 files and AAC files via iPod. I may have to check the conversion frequency and see if iTunes is peaking certain songs for some reason.

Well, reference it to a CD if you have a OEM dealer installed player as that is your best source.

The only acoustical flaw I detect is a slight peak around (my guess) 440 Hz.

Otherwise it's pretty flat and distortion free for a car cabin.

You should think about just getting a powered subwoofer. That will take care of your volume problems. Turn the bass way down on the Bose system and let the subwoofer handle it = higher volume with great sound, equalized specifically for the Q45 cabin.

Max unfortunately the CD changer didn't work. I took it apart and noticed it wasn't pulling cd's into the bay, then if a cd made it to the bay, it wouldn't spin. I trashed it....LOLOLOL.

I am doing the iPod thing now, never owned an ipod before, but I didn't want a cd changer when ipods and other mp3 players are cheaper and hold more music.

96's that may be a good idea seeing as the levels on the treble and mids are 100% but on certain songs the frequency peaks. I currently turn base down and treble and it still peaks on certain songs, leaving me to believe its the recorded frequency and levels of the songs them selves. My only resolve would be to bounce each song into a mixer and change the frequency my self, which would suck.

Getting subs would be a great idea but it would have to wait till Sept, or Oct. 08

96Owner, I called a friend of whom I just remembered he was updating his sound system from two enclosed 8" subs to a single 12" enclosed. He said he would let me check out the two 8". Seeing as we're cool, I was honest with him in saying I am not looking to spend money so he said he may just give them to me, but we are both going to check the continuous peak on the 8s before I invest on a proper installation of the subs. I'll keep you posted if I go that route.

Ok this may be stupid of me but I fixed the problem. I guess I had the EQ set on Hip-Hop in on my iPod. I never used an iPod till a couple of days ago. I turned off EQ all together and everything sounds fine again.

One of the reasons I recommend the CD player option if available is the format is a lot less lossy than MP3 encoding and better than FM for stereo separation and better than both FM and CD for frequency spectrum bandwidth.

Always better to keep any Equaliser or tone controls set to neutral.....notice how true high end home audio preamps dont even have basic tone controls{bass & treble}

My only disposition at this point with a CD player is expense related. Considering my option (Free iPod Nano) or paying for the a new CD changer I choose the free iPod. I do plan however to purchase some time in future a double din touch screen which comes with all the options one can ask for, including in dash DVD and CD changer. For the rest of the year I will have to enjoy the free iPod nano. I am looking into other options as well. I have a strong theory that the iTouch will make a perfect 3.5" touch screen option. Other options include digital radio receiver. But the iTouch has video out features making car entertainment situation inviting. I am still thinking of how the to design a place holder for it in the any car replacing the factory radio all together. I do know that they make a cable that replaces the CD changer for an internal Ipod hook up. Its like $75 bucks.

Your right. Since this is my first experience with an Ipod I learned the hard way.........LOL. I am gonna keep my eyes open in the next couple of months on what technology is doing, because companies will start putting out more products that incorporate functions of driving hands free, music, and GPS to compete with the new 3G I-Phone. The new iPhone, can easily replace head units based on the big screen and GPS features. But I will wait and see whats next.
