Are the rims that I have on my 240sx over kill?

I have a 240sx with 16X8 Rota Grida with kuhmo MX tires and the purpose of the car is for track events and HPDE's. would I really be making mistake if I sold them and went with a cheaper rim, or bought a set of track tires for the extra set of stock rims i have?

If you know of any 4 lug track tires let me know.....

There is no such thing as overkill...

I track my automatic n/a convertible w/ 18x9 & 18x10.5 rims...

I can get better times by improving my driving skills rather than changing to lighter/smaller/whatever rims.

And to answer your question more directly, 16x8 rota grids are fine. They are pretty damn cheap already & ppl track w/ Rota's since they are decent quality & cheap to replace.

As for getting track tires on your stock rims, you can do that also - very sticky icky r-compounds on stock rims will outperform your 16x8 w/ mx's any day. Just make sure you have room in your car to transport 4 rims w/ tires & whatever else you need (or a trailer).

I mean if I go back to stock I would put the MX's them. I was just wondering at what point would the width make a difference as I moved up the ranks of track time

That's all subjective. Some drivers can feel the difference of 10mm-20mm more tire, some can't. Depends on what kind of driver you are.

If you are running stock w/ MX's, I don't see a point.

You can bring both sets to the track & see if you are doing significantly better w/ the rota's vs. the stock wheels.

I mean, it's all pretty basic... more tire = technically more cornering speed, up to a point - that point is determined by the skill of the driver & the kind of tire.

that makes sense man....I spent a little tooo much extra money in expensive parts in my SE-R and didnt want to do the same with the 240. I am in the process of boosting the KA so I was at a point were I was looking at what I spent. It looks like I am better off sticking with the grids

Thanks

SEARCH!!! THere's a pictures/wheels thread on here & other forums.

Depends on how low you are, how much camber you want to run.

But that being said, 225 w/ a roll will work fine for basically everyone on the sportmax 16x8 +0.
