Are the DOHC and SOHC 5 Speed transmissions the same?

Information on the naturally-aspirated KA24E and KA24DE engines.

And there ya go. I have a harness from a dohc transmission, and i have a dohc motor, but will the sohc transmission bolt up to the dohc motor and will the wires connect right?

EDIT: THEY ARE THE SAME BUT BUY A CLUTCH KIT BASED ON THE TRANSMISSION YOUR USING, NOT THE MOTOR!

yes, the SOHC and DOHC transmission are the same. the only difference that i have been able to find is the vent. the SOHC doesnt have one, but the DOHC does. just swap them out and youll be fine.

wow, you are definately wrong, the sohc transmission WILL NOT fit on the DOHC transmission, we just tried it last night thinking it was the same as well. we took a 5spd out of a 92 because it was really messed up, grinded like 2 gears, didnt go in sometimes etc, and we had a sohc laying around, so we put em up to each other, and they looked the same, so we tried putting it in.

4 hours later, trying everything we knew, still no transmission in the car, so we take it out from under the car, and check it to see if it really IS the same... because it came out easily enough. the sohc transmission looks the same, but ones more oval than the other, sohc and dohc are not interchangable

Yes, all S13 and S14 bellhaousings are interchangable.

And they are supposed to work together, I believe that the SOHC transmission that you tried was damaged in some way, because I have never heard of anyone having any trouble with this interchange.

Please do not assume that because you tried something once and it didnt work that it will be the same for everyone else.

well the SOHC transmission came out of my buddys 240 ( just finished an sr swap ) and later, we talked to some people and they recommended swapping the bell housings. Buuuuuuut, problem is, your gonna loose a sensor, and they said we might throw a check engine light... thank god this isnt my 240:)

Somewhere I got the idea that SOHC trannys had one less synchro than the DOHCs. Maybe the one I test-drove had a bad synchro.I doubt that would change whether they can be swapped anyway.

You might have a little issue with the flywheel, something about having to drill out some pins or what not last time.

But I have it in my S13 and I love the flywheel. I just hope you arent using a stock clutch with it.

I just bolted up my transmission to my new twin cam. It fit fine and all sensors hook up. It's in my car now. I havn't finished the swap yet so I can not tell you for sure for sure but everything is hooked upp and several o my friends have done the swap with NO transmission probs.

i wouldnt state something unless it was factual. i work for a local performance shop and do these types of swaps all the time. i also swapped my '89 SOHC for a '91 DOHC and used the SOHC transmission. now how is that that mine worked and yours didnt? i think you may have been doing something wrong. and please, check into these things before posting your assumptions.

So and end result is that a DOHC trans can also work on a SOHC? I've been waiting for a direct answer. buts its been a battle back and forth.

Well i put the sohc trans on my dohc motor and it is perfect. BUT, as far as getting a new clutch kit, buy a clutch kit based on the TRANSMISSION not the motor because i got a de clutch kit and the throw out bearings were different.

Get the fidanza.. even before when my clutch was messed up... everyone who rode in it was amazed. It frees up at least 10 hp. I can spin clear through first and into second in the dry (one tire fire) but the car moves and flows sooo much better.
