I believe the 1994 Q45 has a r200v vlsd diff, the 300z na diff also has a r200 diff, but 300z (and the 240) diff gear ratio is a 4.08 compared to the Q's 3.5. Also the 280z's r200 read end has a 4.11 gear ratio. Comes down to ask ifthey bolt up up the same, are the axles 5 or 6 bolts, can I just change pinion gear, will I have to get a costum driveshaft? I need help thankz!

Z32 are shorter stubs and 5 bolt.

G50 are longeer stubs and 6 bolt.

we've speculated the Z halfshafts will go in fine.. Worst case you need some new bolts and a small (1/4in spacer)

My guess is, they will go right in without any problem. Just switch the input flange so you can use the Q45 driveshaft....

So youll want to get a set of axleshafts, differential... And just put it in like normal, it should go in there.. When i took my axle shaft out, there was more than 1/2 in of extra thread ON EACH halfshaft.

do a search under "4.08" and you will find tons of posts about how to get a 4.08 into a Q45. In short, the only way know to work thus far is to have a specialty driveline shop fabricate a custom spacer to allow for the 4.08 gear and then a couple other tricks of the trade and of course about a $1,000 bill and you are on your way with a 4.08 rearend. I think also that the 300ZX 4.08 is more easily done with getting custom half shafts made to match the lengths up correctly.

I have a 4.08 now for almost 2 months that was a total custom job using all new parts costing well over $1,000 and absolutely love every bit of it. The car is so much faster now around town city driving and is a monster from 95~125mph.

Yep, it's been beaten to death and rs covered it pretty well. From what I've read (correct me if I'm wrong) the G50 diff carrier won't put the 4.08 ring in the right position to mesh with the pinion. The regular r200 diff carrier won't work with the G50 stub shafts and possibly diff bearings.

As for swapping hogsheads, I've verified at the junkyard that the Z32/Y32/Y33/R33 pumpkins are all the same dimensionally and all have the 5-bolt output flanges.

The 300zx stub shafts might work with a spacer but I'm 90% sure it would have to be thicker than 1/4" - more like 3/4" from my rough measurements.

Y32/Y33 shafts (they are the same) won't work because they are too short and have the same CVs as 300zx on the inner end. I suspect they are the same as 300zx shafts.

The new G35 rear will probably work but it has even worse ratios.

The new G35 axles have the same splines as the G50, which are larger than the splines on the Z32/Y32/Y33 etc.

The only one I've never checked is the 300zx turbo, but it is a r230 and doesn't have the good ratio.

What we need is someone to make some custom axles. Should be cheaper ($300 or so) than the spacer/custom rear setup.
