Just curious is my RB20DET is an interference motor because after my rebuild my timing belt tentioner slipped and i heard a tapping noise. I'm trying to figure out if my valves are going to be screwed up because of this. Thanks.

So more than likely that loud tapping noise is a bent or smashed up valve???

Can't tell you that yet. I've got to take off everything to get to the timing belt tensioner and fix the timing. I wouldn't be asking this question if i'd done that...

Definitely yes, rb's are interference engines. I would know because I slipped a tooth when installing my timing belt, and ended up breaking SIX exhaust valves and tearing up the valve seats in the head. What a freaking nightmare.

Well I may have lucked out. I put the cams back where they were supposed to be and put the crank where it was supposed to be and reinstalled the timing belt. The noise went away and I did a compression check and everything was fine across the board. The only ploblem now is that we still can't get it started... I'll save that for another thread.
