Are performance chips as good a deal as it sounds?

The G-Series Tuning Forum is the place to discuss G35/G37 performance modifications and mechanical repair.

Just wondering if anybody has put a performance chip in their car and if so have u ever had problems?? I was looking into getting one but it seems like there is only a few that seem legit. I have been thinking about buying a new ECU and then putting the performance chip on just that and switching out my stock ECU when i know i will be out driving to find a race. Just wondering if anybody can give me feedback.

This topic has been beaten to death... Seriously, do some browsing and searching around in the forum before you make another post. Seriously.

See the little search bar in the top-right of the screen? The one that has "Google" above it. Then, it has a search bar and a choice between "Web" and "G Forums". I bet if you type in "performance chip", you'll end up with this result:

Problem Solved

Wow. That was hard.

They suck, they do not add any HP.

It's a two cent resistor dolled up as "performance mod".

If you want to properly tune your car, you should start with bolt-ons. If you budget will allow, go forced air.

Anybody care to do an article to avoid these stupid questions?

Maybe a cumulative article with all of the mods that FAIL!!!

There are no performance "chips" for our cars. You have to have the ECM reflashed. And it isn't cheap. I just had mine done at Altered Atmoshpere, and it was $580. But they can change almost anything you want when it is done.

Once you mod the car w/ exh, intake, plenum spacer, the car will start to get lean in the upper rpms. Plus all the above mentioned mods move the power band up higher.

A reflash will richen up the A/F ratio where needed and will bring the power curve back down to a useable rpm range. But you will not loose the power gained up top by the mods.

Depenending on the mods you can get upwards of 25 peak HP and 20 ftlbs of torq.

I was very pleased with the power and responce after the reflash. I think there are a few companys doing it. I know AAM and Technosquare are two of them. AAM is in MD and Techno is on CA.

A reflash or aftermarket ECU is generally used when the car has significant bolt ons (FI) or engine work. It will give you a few HP with light mods, but the cost/benefit is low.

I'm new to this forum, but have 2 problems right away:1. Arrogance of some members2. Being told to post less and search more. If we all did that, eventually there would be no new posts.

And if you see a new topic that has already been beat to death, simply don't click on it. I'm sure there are plenty of others who will share their experiences, and new guys like me who would like to read about them.

I posted a question earlier today about my engine dying. Did I violate some rule? Should I be banned, too? Who are you guys and why are you so bitter?

I've followed a bunch of forums (Audi, Mercedes, Porsche, Infiniti) and I'm always disappointed by the apparent need to slam newcomers for asking a question that has been asked before. A simple reminder to try the search function should suffice. Alternatively, you can (a) ignore it, or (b) answer it again. BFD.

But I suppose that's just forum culture. I also love the fact that someone's credibility is based on the number of posts they've made. But, again, that seems to be a universal forum standard.

Just the nature of the forums... I would suggest that all new members read the stickies and at least the first page of topics (not the entire threads) to see what has been discussed and if your question could be answered.
