ok.. DO NOT LAUGH.

every car I've owned, I've only had to swap the front brakes. Rears never wore out.. until now.

So after much cursing and swearing i get the caliper and wheel off. Get the pads out. And stupid me, i decide to try to compress the caliper piston with a c-clamp, thinking they were like the fronts. I wasn't after 2 clamps and a bunch of reading later that i discovered they needed to be _screwed_ in.

In any case, without thinking, I took the caliper assembly out of the car, put a used brake pad over the piston, a sparkplug socket on top of the brake pad, and proceeded to whack the mofo in with a hammer.

Yes. DO NOT LAUGH.

It _seems_ to work ok. Yanking the ebrake leaves two strips of rubber.

Anyone think I did some serious damage to the caliper? Recommendations? Should I replace the caliper? I'm saving up for the Z32 upgrade, but that won't happen for another year or so.

Thanks in advance!

If they work ok, I'd say you're fine. Your front brakes do most of the work anyway. Don't replace it until you notice signs of it going bad, which if it sprung back into place it should work just fine.
