I have a 2007 M35x I replaced the ECM with one I bought on eBay, same number as the original. I called an automotive electronics store and asked if they could program it to my car as my scanner isn't hi tech enough. They said they couldn't cuz it had to blank??
Are they not reprogrammable??
Thanks

They're totally reprogrammable, but changing the firmware and re-registering the keys are completely different things. Most locksmiths can easily re-register keys, but swapping or updating firmware means a trip to the dealer.

So just to be sure I know what I have to do. I have the same number Hitachi ECM from a different car. So it has thesame firmware I just have to reregister the key to it? If so I can do that with my scanner

It won't necessarily have identical firmware, but if it's from the same MY then chances are it's close enough. If you have any unexpected performance problems, then get it checked.

Wasnt one of the 06-07 firmware updates to the ECM due to a recall? I remember getting a thing in the mail to come in and have mine updated. Best to check it and make sure it is on the latest one and if not have the dealer upgrade it.

Well I used my scanner and re-registered my keys and lo and behold they worked. Now the bad news. I seemed to have spun a bearing if my ears don't decieve me. Is it possible to drop the oil pan actually I'll start a new post. Thanks guys for your help!

Actually the spin bearing came first. I was flushing my radiator and block when my intake manifold gasket blew. The oil and block flush chemicals made short work if my running engine. I limped 2 blocks to a parking lot. Then the fiasco with my ECM a keys not recognized started. I was hoping I had just mixed up my coil wires(I did) but it was inevitable. I'm almost to the upper oil pan to change the bearings. I don't know, it might have been easier to pull the motor. But hey, that's how we learn right!!!
