I've got a small clearance on my 225 series tires and the front shocks, the back has plenty of room. I seem to remember reading that coilovers are bigger than stock suspensions? I've got maybe 1cm at the most of clearance. Are coilovers going to fit?

Nope... not on a 7" wheel w/ 225s.

Thanks Nismo_Freak! Yeah i figured they would be bigger, but thats ok. I can get by just fine with Tein S-Techs and AGXs. (and for half the price i might add) springs and shocks should be the same size as stock right?

*edit* BTW i just checked out 240faq.com, it looks awesome! When its done it will be THE place to look up stuff, at least motorwise.

Eh, it'll hopefully be a full site soon, been kinda busy with other stuff but thanks for the feedback.

The reason for the coilovers having fitment issues is this.

If you notice on the stock suspension how the large spring perch is above the wheel. This allows alot of space for different offsets, wheels, tires.

Now on a coilover the spring is perched lower on the strut, it's no longer on the "top" so to say. Now the normal clearance is taken up by the coilovers spring.

I have Tein HA's on my car and I run a 215/45/16 on 7" wide Rotas... that have a +40 offset. Now this is about as close as it gets when you have the car lowered, so the additional 10mm of treadwidth will put you over the top, you will need a spacer.

I do not suggest spacers to people but alot of people do run them. They are cheap and get the job done, but things like elongated wheel studs and spacers create excessive loads on themselves and as a result, studs can and do break. Breaking studs in a corner can result in a loss of control. However I'm not saying it's like driving around with landmines strapped between your hubs... it's just that there are better ways of getting around the problem. Like a spacer w/ it's own studs built in, or wheels with the correct offset.

Interesting, i did not know a lot about coilovers before reading that. I think im going to go with a spring/strut combo to save money and not have to worry about spacing. I'm ever so poor, that or impatient. No i can't wait till i earn more money!
