*My car is 2006 m35 rwd*
So basically I am doing an overhaul on my M, swapping both the tranny and engine so I can keep it longer. My question is, when I look through LKQ they specifically say the 2008 rwd transmissions have a "thru 11/07" and "from 12/07" model and say they are incompatible with the 06 m35 rwd  . I was under the impression the rwd transmissions are the same within the 06-08 rwd m35s. Is this not the case?

edit: Also it appears the 2006 m35 rwd transmissions are actually much more expensive on average on ebay.

After researching quite a bit I would say it should fit, I went on Infinitiusa online and the the 06 and 08 take the same transmission "310C0-3GX3B", which is a the Jatco RE5R05A. Talked to an ebay seller too and said as long as its rwd and between 06-08 there should be no issue. If anyone else else claims otherwise, please do say. Hope this helps anyone else who is unsure.

edit:
Also the "310C0-3GX3B" jatco RE5R05A is the same among the 06-07 (07 coupe) g35 rwd with the 06-08 m35. From my understanding the 03-04 had an older variant of the RE5R05A which won't work, and the infinitiusa website doesnt have a transmission for the 05 g35 but it should be the same as the 06-07 g35.

Are you replacing them because they are broke or getting worn out? or just to "refresh" the car..?

Car has 273k miles on both the motor tranny. Technically the tranny is fine at the moment but the motor burns like a quart of oil every 2 weeks and the timing is off on both cam banks, don't know how long it will last. It's my brothers car but he's handing down to me, planning to keep the car till I finish my degree, Financially, keeping the car and fixing it up is the cheapest route for me atm, mechanic is really reasonable with labor (probably won't charge more than a grand) and a used motor and tranny add up to $1300-1400 max.

I reckon they might be an exact fit because they all have the same engine and drivetrain. Infiniti hasn't changed easy stuff like the radios on over 10 years, so I doubt they did much to the drivetrains. Hopefully Ed will chime in shortly. He may have actually done this sort of thing.

Can we also say the transmission system is swappable with 2004 m45? I see from online resources that both m45/35 2004- have the same RE5R05A transmission system.

Id be a bit hesitant, apparently from my research between 03-04 the g35/350z trannies switched the TCM from outside to inside the housing so I cant say for certain if m45 03-04 trannies are direct swap to 06-10, best bet would be verifying them visually and checking gear ratios on the owner's manuals.

The 03-05 trans connects via 3 plugs on the outside. 06 & up connects via 1 plug.

Eyedeekay,

Congrats on having an M with 273k miles! That’s great. Unfortunately the motor is burning oil, likely due to worn cylinder walls or piston rings. I made a post about this earlier this year. It will likely have to be rebuilt or replaced. I think $1400 is a great price to keep it running. In terms of the transmission, they should all have the same part number so they should bolt right up. You can look up genuine Nissan parts to verify this.

I really wish we could easily swap a '09 trans with its 7-speed into the 06-08 models. I believe it should physically fit, but it is more the ECU stuff that needs a lot of changes.
