Because I sure as heck don't think so..... I'm talking about the 944, and 968. I've gotten the feeling from some people that these are amazing cars, but I still think they're pieces of sh*t. They're unreliable lemons for God's sake! Weren't they built from scrapped engine plans by Audi? Here, you can buy a mint condition 944 for $2,300. I sure don't think they're anything special...

very expensive to maintain, and new boxsters have a crappy exhaust note. if you bought a new one it would be a "rich" car, but an old one wouldn't.

944's, 968's, 928's, and all the other front engine porsches' are real Porsches IMO. a real Porsche is a rear engine speedster. targa's and all that are included. but any Porsche that isn't a rear engine car, isn't a Porsche IMO. a kid at my school has a 944 non-turbo. it looks ok i guess, interior is alright. but when he starts it up and drives it, i seriously wonder how its still running. its a serious POS. i think he bought it as a repo'd car also, so i bet it was ragged out even before he got it. and he isn't helping it any. he works at taco bell, so you know he is makin the big bucks to fix it up, workin at taco bell!

go pick up this months issue of "grassroots motorsports" it goes into this a little on the cover story "911 vs 924" . as a general look at the resale values of the cars , the 911 sells for 3 times what a 924 goes for in this used market . it really depends on who you ask , the 924 and suseqently the 944 and 968 are dervivates of a vokswagen sportcar project much like the new VW and Porsche SUVs , this being the case many porsche purists see them as fake porsches or the caddy cimmaron of the porsche world , in fact they have tons of ponteital and are awesome cars with incredible balance makeing them much easier to drive at 9/10ths on the track , a 911 requres a great deal of finnesse out there , when you run one at the limit you beatter know what your doing ....many of the purists that hate the 924 because of its volkswagen roots need to remeber dr porsche created the volkswagen bug and ultimetly volkswagen at the urgeing of adlof hitler in the late 30s ...the 914 enjoys a simialr lack of respect from porsche folks even tho its engine is a almost litteral volkswagen engine outside the 914/6

I'm sorry, but the 928 is bad-*** IMO. It may be front engine, but who can argue with a V-8? I like the way it looks too.

Now the other crap cars like the 944, 968, and 924 can all be destroyed for all I care.

i can argue with a V8. they might be sweet when they are running (what kinda horsepower and torque are they putting down anyway?) but they are POS i think. i've heard they are.

Depends on which Porsce you are calling "rich" or not. Those old 944's were never very reliable, and the predesesor (sp) to that one was worse. I think it was called a 914? Anyways, you sure do not see those around at all. I always liked the 928 too. It was very futuristic looking when it came out in the late 70's. The Boxer is OK, but if I were getting a Porsche, I would be getting a late model 911 Carrera. Man, those are my favorote!

Wow you get GM in Alaska? Didn't think there'd me much demand for it. But anyway that article was great.

Not all Porche's are "rich mens" cars. No one said all the models were prestigious.

I think the Boxster is just the worst. How much does it cost? I know above 40. And 350 would probably keep up with it, if not do a number on it, for a substantially lower price tag.

Dude, a stock base model boxter is slow as hell. To give you an idea, I raced one (base model, automatic) with my 98 SE-R and ran neck and neck with it. And my SE-R was virtually stock (only "power" mod was an intake).

Even the Boxter S is not *that* fast. My friend has an 87 RX-7 Turbo II running 12 lbs of boost, stock turbo, and pulled away from one pretty easily.

Yeah, thats what I mean. I saw a dyno chart of one with an exhaust and it was pushing some ridiculiously low number at the wheels (can't remember, might have been 180, or something, I could be REALLY off. What kind of power are they supposed to make stock?). It was a Boxter S.

I just didn't want to put my foot in my mouth saying a 350 would wax it.

Wow, an awful lot of "that car sucks, IMHO".

Everybody reads the magazines and develops an opinion based on other peoples opinions. Just like the cars we are used to, if you drive (actually drive, your butt in the seat, foot on the accelerator) a well sorted example of any of the cars in this thread, especialy the 914 2.0 and 944S, you will be impressed.

You just have to hunt to find one in good shape. The Q45 crowd will understand this completely, I'm not so sure of the SX guys.

Well my ex-boss bought a 944 turbo with 36k miles on it.I got to drive it 3 or 4 times. It was in mint shape and drove great. It had plenty of power(not 911 turbo power mind you)and handeled great also.He sold the car after 2 years and only 10k miles added,so who knows how dependable it was as he didn't drive it enuff to dind out.Hence the Rich term as in its not my daily driver I have my BMW for that!LOL:D

My father in law has a NA 944... it looks like crap but it runs great! I swear... the mechanics of that car is awesome. the body, interior and everything else is all crap... He got the car brand new and still has it.. It got in a crash and the insurace company called in totaled but he bought it back.. he yet has to fix some f the body damage... so it looks like a peice of $hit. but I drove it for 2 days... man that thing runs good.. has some power 2! IMHO... any porsche is a porsche regardless of anything....

Are all Porsche's considered "rich" cars? No, not all of them. You could probably say the new ones are because there are none cheaper than $50,000. But if you look at the older ones, definitely not. Only a few Porsche models were considered "rich" cars/

912/914/924 were all affordable cars when they were new. Heck the 4 cyl 914 was powered by a VW motor. But the big drawbacks to Porsche have always been their maintenance cost, and reliablility. They cost considerably more to maintain than their competition. The fun to drive intangible is what makes Porsche's such great cars -

"Rich" Porsche's include the 928/996/962, recent 911's. Very expensive to buy when new, to insure and to maintain. Sure you can buy a 928 cheaply now, but you'll quickly realize that they are very costly to maintain.

to OWN a Porsche you have to be rich! parts are extremely expensive! and it doesn't help when they aren't very reliable.

(btw, i LUV the 944)

Porsches are the bomb. Love them especially the godly 911. But they are rich people cars with the exeption of the 944 and 928.
