Hello all,

The search engine is currently broken and I have searched threads for the past hour manually...

Are S13 heads the same as S14, i.e. are 1991-1997 KA24DE heads identical.

I read about a large port version after 95 and small port in earlier years.. is this only truck engines?

I know I can bolt an S14 head onto an S13 and vice versa but I want to know if they are identical....

The local salvage yard says '95-97 heads are the only ones that interchange...

Thanks!

The large port after 95 is SOHC trucks only.

They are identical i believe, might a minor difference in casting somewhere but they are definatley interchangable. The reason the yard gave you that info, probably is due to the cam change in s14's. They run a 232/232 came setup vs. 232/248 in most s13's. If you werent familiar with this cam change do some more reading.

And the valve covers are different, so the head casting is not identical.

Valves are the same, manifold are physically the same size, etc...but the heads and front upper timing covers are different for S13 vs S14.

I guess i shouldnt have said identical, hah. Good info to know, i didnt know the specifics but now i do. So what your also saying is the s13/s14 upper covers are not interchangable between heads?

The lower cover mounting, and distributor mounting/drive dimensions are all the same though correct?

They are physically interchageable, but if you use an S14 front cover on an S13 head, it leaves a tiny spot open behind the distributor and oil goes everywhere.

Basically, the S13 cover goes straight down, and the S14 cover has a bump...that's all.

But yes, the distributor mounting and gears are identical.

Lower covers are identical AFAIK.

Thanks for the replies guys...

Now to find an S13 upper front timing cover and valve cover in addition to a head!
