I read a post by Maxnix (Brian) that said 1991-1994 Q45 speakers and amps are different. They are made for the different interiors they are in 1991-1993 VS 1994-1996. I want to send four off to 3Q Jay but I don't want to have mixed matched speakers and amps if they aren't compatible.

1990 Q45 amps are different so I don't count those. And of course 1994-1996 Q45 has two extra prongs on the connector for the tweeters (Still have to make a write up).

Speakers are the same across the board, front and rear, for all G50. It's the harness that connects to the amp that is different.

- 90Q amp has a soldered 4 prong white connector that cannot be unplugged from the amp. This is for both the front and rear.

-91 to 93 Q amp has a 4 prong blue detachable connector. For the 90Q owners, if you want to use this setup in your Q you'll need to trim the middle tab out of the amp connector so it will fit the 90 white harness.

- 94-96 Q amps have a 6 pin white detachable connector. The harnesses front and rear can only be used in the 94-96 but the amps can be used on any year Q45, J30, Maxima, I30, M30, or 300zx with a Bose head unit. (Ditto for the 91-93 amps)

For what your doing Paul remove the amps, disconnect the harnesses and send Jay just the amps. He's got spare harnesses and speakers to test the amps in his Q when he's done rebuilding them.

The input levels for the 90 are different from the 91-96,

The amplifiers have a different equalizer chip for front and rear to match speaker size and enclosure or not.

I know this from experience... replaced my 90 amps with 91 amps once and noticed a big difference due to the mismatched line level input... eventually changed the radio to a 91 to match.

I would have to think the 94-96 would have a different amp equalization, at least in the front, due to the addition of the A-Pillar tweeter.

Not really just a capacitor to act as a high pass filter for tweeter. The distance from the tweeter to ear vs door speaker adjusts the -6db psychoacoustic difference.

In a previous life mid 70's I use to design and build very very expensive giant home and recording studio speaker systems.

Something close to these 600 pounders:

Cool thread here for sure.. I spent a few years in the home audio system biz, before moving to computer systems programming in 1980.

You don't want to know the kind cars that were sold at the dealership where I worked after school and summers during my high school days.. ;-)
