Are 79 and 54 pistons interchangable?

Does anyone know if the 79 stamped pistons are interchangeable with the 54 pistons. The only new piston I can find is a 54, the vendors list this as giving a 8.3:1 compression ratio. I have the 79 pistons in my redtop and I only need to replace 1. So is it ok to just get a whole set of 54's to put in there? Will the b13 piston rings fit these pistons fine, because I already bought the rings from Nissan for my 79 pistons?

Also, How come no one sells new #79 pistons?

79 Pistons came in Redtops between 1991 and mid 1993. 54C pistons came in S13 blacktops from 1993-1998. 54C pistons are also found in RNN14's and S14 SR20DET's.

They are just a newer design. As long as you purchased the proper sized piston it should be just fine. And yes B13 Sentra piston rings will fit both pistons.

Nobody sells 79 pistons because they were a superceded part that is no longer produced because Nissan made a newer replacement version (the 54 piston).

For reference:S13 Redtop piston = A2010-79E**S13 Blacktop piston = A2010-54C**Piston rings = 12033-53J00 or 12035-53J00 depending on normal or oversize.

Ok So now my question is, If I put a #54 in my engine will it yield a 8.5:1 compression ratio. The sites that sell them new state that it is a 8.3:1 compression ratio. So really what I need to know is should I just buy 1 new #54 or should I replace them as a set. I definetly wouldn't want to have 2 different compression ratios in the same engine.

The vender is wrong on the stats. Both will yield 8.5:1 compression.
