are 1993 Sentra timing chain guides plastic

A great resource for Nissan Sentra, Infiniti G20, 200sx, Pulsar, NX1600, NX2000, Tsuru, Primera and Sunny owners.

like those of early infi Q45? Said plastic guides were highly prone to shatter, causing a very sad situation, it is SOP to inspect and replace plastic guides with metal backed guides on early Q45. I'm looking to buy a 93 sentra and would like to know if it has the same curse. PS is there a buyer's guide on forum?

Thanks, Drake

The guides are plastic. The guides aren't prone to destruction, but the timing chain tensioners do crap out which need replacement.

No buyers guide, just ask questions you can't find during your search.

Thank you. I'll search. Can anyone say if tensioner failures tend to be sudden and catastrophic, or are there warning signs?

Are tensioner failures repairable, without removing the head? The reason I need a car is that my daughter destroyed her engine due to timing belt failure, and I want to stay out of that trap.

Thanks, Drake.

The tensioner can be replaced and is fairly cheap. When the tensioner begins to get weak it allows chain slap @ start up which makes a distinct sound. How many miles on the motor?
