That mean that it needs to be washed and re-oiled right?

k&n makes one that drops in there (or so I've heard)... I would just measure the size filter you need and go up to autozone.

does the k&n filter oil cause any mass airflow damage? i've heard stories of them fouling maf meters...of course it's stories, i've had a few and never been all that impressed, but, if it fits...thanks for the info

I've heard the same thing, but I don't know where you're going to find a high flow dry filter that's shaped properly to fit in your ARC box without dropping $$$ for a new arc filter. If it fouls up your maf, just clean off the oil with some brake cleaner.

People have had trouble with them fouling the maf when you use the recharger kit on their filter. People spray too much oil on the filter, and it just all soaks through.

Or you could reoil the filter and let it dry overnight. I see so many people clean and reoil it only to put it back on and start driving.

I know that http://www.raretrick.com can also get you the filters, but IIRC they are better than $100. I know the air box new is $325.

okay, i know this is being picky but wouldn't you want to use like, throttle body cleaner instead ...just saying. i've done some independent research on the subject. first i pulled every air filter off the shelf at work and tried to make one fit. no good. and according to one trip to the only auto store that will continue to put up with me the only air filter that fits is for a '99-04 merc clk kompressor, that's rough dimensions...i think i'll just get an arc, project nissan's got them for about $75 and if that doesn't work rhdjapan quoted me $95 shipped, high i know, but such is the cost of exclusivity, right? god, i'm an idiot!! somebody should ....thanks for the input and help!
