While I'm probably more web-savvy than most here, I'm less technically inclined than most when it comes to other electronics.

You know how it has animated wallpapers? If you use a regular non-animated wallpaper then battery life increases.AZhitman wrote:What is it and how do I remove it?krash wrote:That and getting rid of the live wallpaper has done some good.
It is indeed. Thank you for pointing that out.charlieo wrote:Unless I'm missing something, SetCPU is for rooted phones only. Are you telling an admitted technophobe to root his cellphone?PoorManQ45 wrote:I would recommend creating an account over at XDA and downloading SetCPU for free.
The biggest thing is to underclock the CPU when the phone is sleeping/standby. I've noticed my average battery life increased like 2~4 hours on my Mytouch with regular use, and about 2 days if it's sitting idle.
Yes, you are fine. You're using a regular background.AZhitman wrote:OK, I have a picture as my wallpaper. I should be OK then?
I've heard about this rooting stuff but don't know much about it... Please explain.PoorManQ45 wrote: Rooting isn't that difficult anymore. Most phones have a "One touch" rooting method now. Life is good for technophobes
Basically analogous to gaining superuser/administrator rights on a computer. Let's you do things that by default the software prevents you from doing, like tweak certain settings, removing certain built-in apps that you can't just normally delete, and installing a custom interface. I know on at least some of the phones overclocking is possible too once you've rooted. Technically voids the warranty on most phones and supposedly can brick the phone if you do it wrong (think pulling the plug on a PC in the middle of reinstalling windows or something) but there has yet to be a case of any android phone (at least any Droid branded android phone) being truly bricked, anywhere.poems2beats wrote:I've heard about this rooting stuff but don't know much about it...
