Apparently the fuses didn't work as they should have..

Any ideas on how to go about fixing this (s13 kickpanel fusebox)? As far as i know you cant really disconnect and replace the fusebox it has to be cut/rewired/soldered. These 2 fuses are for the blower motor, which still seems to work fine... various interior lights wont function now either (ac control backlight, dimmer switch..) Radio still works. The gauge cluster (digital) works strangely now. Sometimes there's no speedometer/clock/backlights, other times it kicks on after a few minutes of driving.

Actually, they probably WOULD have worked had i been using the right fuses (15A and not 20)

And that children is why you never use a larger fuse than what is called for.

Your quickest fix will be to cut the wires for those 2 fuses off the back of the fuse block, then get some fuse holders from the auto parts store of your choosing, and then wire them in place of the 2 fried spots on the fuse block.

The longer way involves digging the interior apart so you can swap the entire harness or cut and splice in a new fuse block.

^^ for real a lapse in good judgement for sure, though in this case it wasn't necessarialy do to the wrong fuse. While i was trying to fix my strangely acting hud cluster my "sleepy eye" switch (interuptor switch between the "light control" fuse) came loose and shorted somewhere near the steering column. I'm assuming that's what blew them since thats when i noticed the burning smell. I thought i fused that switch correctly but apparently not. Any idea which side of the fuse is from the battery? I cant make sense of the fsm's diagram.

Also, the dim switch not working along with the ac control backlight, most likely due to the TCM? I'll check that out tomorrow.

Sumbitch! It looks like you were using a solder fusable link!

I would cut the affected leads into the fuse box and make a separate fusebox. Grab a smaller fuse carrier off some junk car and repurpose it with the appropriate sized fuses to replace these melted sections of yours.

I dont understand how they melted. But I absolutely agree with finding a small fuse block to use for those 2 slots, cut and rewire.

Courtesy nissan says they have one fuseblock left in the country and its $95 dollars. While it would be awesome to have the last one i think i'll junkyard it. I'm really not sure how it melted like that. like i said earlier about the sleepy eye mod, i've got a cut brown wire and some extended wires running from the "light control" fuse a little lower in that picture to a switch. I kept an inline fuse 5A fuse to be safe but i guess i put it on the wrong side. I shorted the wire on something near the steering column twice while trying to get it apart. 2 Huge sparks later and thats what i find. Thanks for the advice, i'll add another small fuseblock until i can source one at the junkyard. Maybe i'll throw a small fire extinguisher in the car.
