Has/is anyone using one of these on a N/A KA?

If so does it seem to be worth the money?

Not the KA, but I have used it on a few different cars, everytime it helped. You have to go dyno or you will not see any gains, but in my experience on N/A you gain 4-6 hp throughout most of the rpm range. The best part is that it usually makes the car idle and accelerate soooo much smoother. The difference is amazing.

Last car I used it on was my 2000 Celica GTS and it worked wonders. Really smoothed the ride and gained some power also. I recommend this as a decent upgrade, although it cannot control spark/timing etc, but still recommended. For the price it can't be beat, but I suggest the new one, there are now 3 out, the knobbed primitive one, the newer one and there is an even newer one, just came out and functions better.

If you do get it though make sure and get good connectors for tapping to the ECU wires. Here are some links that might be of some help:

I can't find the link for the version 3 AFC but I'll search.

I am using one on the KA - The main reason i put one on the car was to even out the terrible things that started to happen when i put the Apex Dual N1 exhaust on the car. It helped alot, but only to bring me back to where i was before the exhaust.

Everything i have done to the car so far is in preparation for an SR20 - So alot of the stuff that's there, shouldn't be there.

Thanks for the comments. That's exactly what I'm looking for.

I think I'm definately gonna snag me one of these. The hp and driveability gains sound like they alone would be worth it, and let's be honest...A cool in-car display like that has it's own merits :p

Now I just gotta figure out how/where to mount it so it looks snazzy. I'm thinking I'll either put it under the cd player or move the radio down and put it where the radio used to be.

I'll post some pics when I'm done. :D

Under the CD player in that hole would look great!!

And it is very cool to have the display up, just make sure you don't mount it in plain view, like up on the dash or anything, someone might steal it. Good luck and let me know how it turns out on the KA, I might get one too.

Are you going to dyno it?

If you've a KA use the N3-b ecu diagram. For the new S-AFCII (both black and blue screens) use the Hot Wire diagram. I dont think the KA24E has a wire to use the knock sensor though...if there is please do tell! The wires are as follows:

red - powergreen - rpmpurple - knockgray - throttlebrown and black - groundyellow - air flow output (to the ecu from safc)white - air flow input (to the safc)

and for SR's it really depends on the year your engine's from as they've got different ECU wiring diagrams or how you've cut up your ecu wiring. But basically you're looking at N3-d, N3-b, N3-a or N4-f ecu diagrams.

Oops forgot to add something. A noob might be able to install it, just remember to ground to the ecu, and that the black is farther away from the ecu than the brown by a minimum of 1cm relative to the brown on the wire grounding into the ecu.

Programming it...I don't really recommend it if you're a noob with piggy back comps as you can really damage your motor if you're over zealous with the settings.

otherwise it's a worthy investment and can be used later on with your SR swap if you're planning on running it on a KA. Very nice and yes the black screen ones look better than the blue ones, and in my opinion a bit easier to read at night than the blue from the original SAFC.

Ordered mine yesterday.

As soon as I get it, or attempt to get it installed, I'll post with any helpful tips/tricks I can. Enjoy!

I got a good deal on a super afc so I'm picking 1 tomorrow!

Hope everything goes smoothly...

tjdodd: what type of mods do you have currently installed?

mine's pretty much stock ... I've only got a K&N drop in filter, and custom cat-back exhaust...

pretty tame at the moment. Nothing spectacular.

Pdm cams, hotshot header(as soon as it comes in), Injen intake, dual n1, ported & polished head/intake manifold, unorthodox crank pulley, mostly small things like that.

A good bit of my money thus far has gone into the suspension. Front/rear strut bars, KYB AGX's, sportline springs, all new bushings, whiteline swaybars, Voxx Matrix 17x8's.

I have one waiting to be installed on my high compression S14.. I am positive JWT's setup that they programmed for me is weak, so I am hoping to optimize it and squeeze out another 10-15 horsepower!

I'll let you know how it goes.

Here is the Super AFC 2 that I was originally talking about, just about the same price of a new SAFC, if not cheaper. It has more functions and looks better IMO.

Well the install for a KA is pretty straight forward. Follow the N3-B diagram in the AFC manual. Yes, I've got a S-AFCII with the black screen on mine. The diagrams are pretty much the same as the original AFC diagrams, just the ground has been moved to the upper row-rightmost position. So if you look at the diagram in the manual, you've got (from top most row going left to right)

RPM Airflow Throttle Ground Knock Power

That is the almost like the way they've got it positioned in the manual, the spacing and their relative positions. Like I posted before, the colors are as follows

red powergreen rpmpurple knockgray throttlebrown groundblack groundyellow air flow to ecuwhite air flow to AFC

I soldered all my connections, and for a cleaner look and for security, I cut into the wiring of the S-AFC. I attached a serial connection to the cut portion of the AFC so I can detach it after I turn off the car. You can put the other serial connection where I put it, next to the rear windshield wiper switch on your instrument panel right behind the steering wheel. You just have to punch a small hole into one of the blank spaces down there...that is if you have a space there. I then put 3 little velco dots on the back of the afc and on the support, then put the support on my dashboard. Now when the car is off, it looks like I've got a ecu input to modify it using a laptop or computer. Ha ha ha. Wait a second...I do! The AFC! Hope that helps.

btw Takakaira's a bit expensive, if you want to risk it, you can get the non black screen for like 300+ SH off ebay, or if you've a local dealer then you can get it through them. I got mine with the black screen for 340 flat.

Tuning is all up to you as each motor is different. You can try to listen for it, or get a A/F ratio meter, or get a EGT (exhaust gas temp) meter.
