how logical would it be for me to install an apexi safc 2 on my s14? The motor is very stock w/ some intake and exhaust bolt-on's. I am building the car with drivability and smoothness in mind, not all out speed. I have no experiance with ecu and fuel map tuning and was wondering to what degree I would be able to tune and improve the overall feel of the motor. Could I smooth out the powerband enough to make this a good upgrade, or should I just save the money and spend it on something more conventional like a full exhaust system? Thanks for any advice.

if u want better gas mileage for $300, get it.if ur gonna stay NA, and not do too much else to the car, do not get it.

usually SAFCs are gotten to fine tune a car with more significant power mods than intake/exhaust, or to tune VTEC applications.

they tune fuel maps for turbo cars, which of course applies to NA as well, but usually for cars with under 200whp, it's of no bigger use than any other mod for that price. unless you really care about your A/F ratio or the smoothness of your powerband, enough to spend 300 bucks to correct the minor defects from the factory. you could also mess up, lean it out too much and blow your stock KA.

so for someone who is not planning to go turbo, and doesn't need to get familiar with SAFC for later goals, i wouldn't suggest getting it. it does look cool on ur dash, and displays RPMs and battery voltage, and etc... so maybe you're rice enough to get it just for that :) j/k.

Not worth it if you plan to get one just for trying to raise your mileage. The time it'll take for you to recover the cost of the afc to the amount you could possibly save (unless you were running lean in which case more money gets sunk into gas) I'll bet your car would have outlived its usefulness. If you plan on doing future upgrades then by all means, its an investment that'll grow with the additional stuff you install to raise power. It will also go to different cars so it makes it a universal part. However, it's a matter of whether or not that 300 seems like a worthy investment to you. For a bit more smoothness and a chance of better mileage, I'd say forget about it and get better parts at your next tune up.
