Hey guys, i just picked up an Apex Super Grounding Kit. I was wondering if anyone has used this particular grounding kit or if anyone has any advice as to which points to use as grounds. THe instructions recommened using the alternator as one, but as far as the other ones, i have no clue. Thanks in advance!

Sorry, can't give you exact locations...

Just look for braided steel lines going from the engine to a spot on the chassis.

And as always, make sure you ground it to bare metal.

Thanks for recommending the kit though, I've been looking for one. I'll have to look into it. Where'd you pick it up/how much did it set you back?

I picked up my kit on EBay for $145+$120 shipping + tax. Yea it's more expensive than the HKS system, but i believe this grounding kit is the best on the market currently. Just search on EBay for "Apex Super Grounding Kit" if you wanna look for pricing.

120$ for shipping...holy crap! i hope that's a typo.

i think a grounding kit would be like one of the last things on my performance list. there's so many other things i could put that 150$ towards.

i still want one though...

Yeah, I think I can go to the hardware store and pick up a spool of 4 gauge wire and some ring terminals and make myself quite a few grounding kits for that price.

whoops, yea only $20 for shipping.......so i pop my hood yesterday to install the damn thing, and look over at my battery. THe bracket holding my battery down looks like it's corroding away and the negative terminal is purple. I don't know if some kinda of crap got on it or if the battery may be leaking or something? ARgh, too many problems...

It's possible it may be leaking, but more likely it's just oxidation. How old is the battery and what brand? Is it a maintenance-free battery? Do yourself a favor and pull the terminals off and clean them up real well with a wire brush(the mating wire terminal as well). Before you reinstall them, get two anti-corrosive 'doughnuts' from a local battery outfit. They are soaked in an anti-corrosion liquid(purplish-red in color) that will prevent corrosion like that from forming. If you ask nicely they'll usually give them away for free. I think it's the reaction from stray electrons collecting around the plastic of the battery terminal, but that's just a guess.

Also, I would use the stock grounding points to start with. There's on on the battery tray, intake manifold, starter(or alt, can't remember), rear of head, and chassic over by the MAFs.

This is an S13 right?

hey i have the kit, grounding points as follows, of course the possitive wire to the battery, and the main ground wire to the battery, it will not work if you do not have these things hooked up to the battery its supposed to stablize the voltage comming from the battery, the grounding wire one to the alternator, one to the original ground for the battery one on the head, i split some of the wires up and grounded the distributer and one to the block, use a dremmel with a 80 grit roll to clean the surfaces first and put some thermal grease over the connections, i originaly installed it becuse i had some noise problems in my audio system, worked great, for that power wise i dont know. but the redlight looks cool, remember to zip tie all the wires to something.

Doohopark, that is very confusing!!. I paid $40 for 20ft of 4 gauge amp wire and a bunch of connectors!

um ill try to take some pics of it tommrow, but this thing does stablize voltage flow from the battery, i tested useing a meter, i dont know what that will do as far as performance goes...

Heh well i already installed it. I didn't ground the alternator yet because it's a b**ch to get to without taking off the air intake first. I have a kouki S14, so hardly many places to even mount the unit. As far as the battery was concerned, i just replaced it with a new one. The old one was well....old anyways. When i have more time I'll move one of the grounding points to the alternator. For now i have it to the distributor, the head, and just the chassis. Hopefully gas mileage should improve. Gas prices these days *roll eyes*

you'll see the best gains in electrical performance after you ground your alternator.

Electrica gains I'm not too worried about, but as far as the alternator is concerned, after grounding that, will it make a difference in gas mileage also? or just minimally?

well, if your alternator is charging better, it will better charge your coil. if you charge the ignition coil better, it will discharge a stronger spark, thus, yes helping with gas milage. an aftermarket coil will help there too. actually, most any bolt on performance part helps with gas milage. intakes, headers, exhausts, test pipes things like that help. i was getting 28MPG on my KA before i swapped with only a filter, coil, and cat-back.
