Damn... I've had mine on for two years through New England salty winters and living on the ocean. They haven't got a speck or rust on them. The canisters are SS and shouldn't rust ever... and the pipes are coated to prevent rust...

I'd call the company you bought it from to get info about a warranty. I don't think they offer one... but who knows.

yeah, the canisters are stainless steel for the most part... the back of the canisters and the pipes are coated mild steel. I got it from enjuku, so i guess ill email them.

Fuel is not an oxidizer, is it? Moisture is still likely to be the oxidizer. Running rich might be the root cause though. Your EGT is probably higher than normal. This higher temp (if over 500*C) might be forcing chromium out of the matrix...chromium is what makes steel stainless. Or perhaps you just got a bad material lot, or bad weld filler.

lol, no they are not glowing red. I dunno, all i know is that it sucks, and its happened very quickly, a few weeks ago they were normal on the outside (i know that doesnt say much) but with the design of the pipes angled up, i can see how watever kind of moisture (gas/condensation, etc) is in there... its rusting right where all that moisture would pool. so i dunno, im patching it up for now so i dont get sick over the exhaust fumes at every stop light.

Steel does not glow at 500*C. Radiation crosses into the visible spectrum around 650*C. The exhaust pipe is like a long heat exchanger for the 800*+ exhaust gasses.

Dan, it may be the slag that's rusting - or has it gone all the way through?

Mild steel ends on the canisters? Non-stainless piping? I won't knock another company's product, but that's just lame. :(

I want to see this thing when you get to Phoenix.

thanks for the encouraging words w1ngzero.

yeah, i patched the wholes up today. REALLY ghetto but should work... exhaust putty injected in the holes, two stainless steel plates screwed over the putty with sheet metal screws, then more putty around the edges,
