Anyway to diagnostically test a catalytic converter?

Pulled mine off today and it looked good. No melting or cracks and no visible cloging. So how does one know if it is really good?

i think you have to take it to a shop with a 5 gas analyzer. don't really know how they do it but i think they make a rich mixture and they they see how much did the converter reduce the emissions.

Maybe I'll just change the darn thing, after all it's almost 20 years old.

No real way to check the cat and make sure it is working properly. The only real test is checking the temperature difference between inlet/ outlet.

OBD II vehicles utilize multiple o2 sensors that check for catalytic efficiency.
