Anyone with the 6MT feel like the gear ratio is off?

Maybe it's me, maybe it's just because it's a smaller car and you can hear/feel things a lot more than you would in a bigger vehicle, but it seems to me that the rpm seems high for 6th gear. I'm constantly checking to make sure I'm in 6th and not 4th.

i agree with you, I think the rpms in 6th are quite high, there's hardly a difference between 5th and 6th at all.

I agree with you both, but if you go around 4000 rpms and then hit 6th gear you will see the difference... I know it is not like the difference between the gears 1 -4 but still... Having the 6th gear is not too much of a benefit considering you have to switch out of 3rd so early.

I have agree aswell and I've noticed 6th gear is useless unless you travel on the highway...

I believe 6th gear could be stretch out a bit as well ... it'd also help teh fuel economy of the Versa.

I think it could be a little taller, but if you reduce it too much, you'll find yourself downshifting frequently into 5th when going up and down large hills at speeds under 60mph. You also can use 6th down ot almost 35mph if needed. If it was taller, you'd have to downshift more often in traffic.

I think Nissan&Renault decided to use only 1 gearset for this transmission and the ratios are the best comprimise for the torque curve, vehicle weight, and fact that is most other countries, you spend more time crusing at 45-60mph.

Raising 6th by about maybe 3% would probably be about right. That would give you a 100RPM drop at 70mph.

My Honda Accord had a 5 speed automatic. The 5th gear was nice and tall, but it's accelerated very poorly in top gear, and downshifted frequently under 70mph. But it alos got 33-35mpg at freeway speeds... better than my Versa. But it was a $24k car, so it's not fair to compare.
