Need to know maybe to help cut sometuning timedown , what settings work the best for midrange power and torque for my turbo setup ? I have JWT cams dualvalvesprings and valves done up , all bottom end done and looking for more drivable power as mine right now is all top end , 5000-7800, I know from looking all these years at all dyno sheets the motor really doesn't make anymore power way up there past 6500 . my overlap is sset now after motor overhaul just with the bigger springs and just cams alone , that my copression tests at cranking 300rpm are 120 across board, I want to use the camming to make power a little earlier ,more closer to the ka's real bandwith. I have gears I am gettingready to put in , but wanting some help on settings.any help appreciated.

I haven't got a clue as to what your cam specs are, but for good low end torque you want the lobe centers around 102 degrees for intake and exhaust. If your getting good power at the top end and nothing in low rpms and your cams are adjustable I'd try rotating the intake about 1/32" out (ccw looking front to rear) but scribe a line on the front cam bearing caps and the cams before you do anything. Do the exhaust cam the same amount cw. What I described will effectively lower your overlap and give you more BMEP at mid rpms, though you'll lose breathing and BMEP at top rpms. For seat of the pants everyday driving you'll want more torque in the lower rpm band as no one but a ricer races his car at the redline all the time. Just play it by ear, so to speak, you may find the power more to your liking with only retarding the intake cam a bit. Rule of thumb: rotate the int and exh cams ccw & cw respectively for less overlap and more low end torque and turn them in toward each other for more overlap and high end power. It doesn't take much, 1/32" (think of a pencil line as the size) from the base line scribed is almost 6 degrees of timing so be carefull.

you can rev your KA to 7800rpms?

with those aftermarket cams it is a trade between your low end torque and top end, you should have known that when you bought them , no setting will change that. go back to your stock cams.

sorry, I want to appoligize now for my backwoods french, but you seem a little harsh about that!(checkered-member). I was told by JWT the cams actually help upper torque and open up for more top end, more lift more air than stock. I have jwt gears that are selectable. I want some helpand opinions on the issue.

Uhm, no! This is typically the case because of overlap issues, which CAN be solved by changing cam timing individually.

So, what are the cam specs? Need to know when intake opens, intake closes and degrees BTDC/ATDC, same for exhaust. Are the cam gears indexed and if so I'm assuming there's a zero mark with +/- index marks for degrees. It's really not that difficult and it's amazing the amount of low end torque you can gain by slight adjustments and you don't need a dyno to feel the difference. Find out what youfr lobe centers are and go from there.
