Thats a god damn shame, although, the OP is looking for what he should do rather than what he shouldnt do.
To OP, the above post is exactly the kind of things not to do, just so you know.
Btw, how did you end up on the front of a corvette?? Looks like you were at some sort of racing event, some skilled drivers at that one. Let me know where that was so that I can stay clear.
The only thing they shouldn't do is fall asleep at the wheel and wrap a tree at ~90. I was rather pleased the car let me walk away from that with little more than a scratch. Could have been a lot worse if I didn't loose steering when the brakes locked up. (good luck walking away from that in an S13)
Don't knock the replacement bumper... After hitting enough small animals, and some **** deciding she wanted to change lanes in the middle of an intersection without looking... It needed to be replaced, and frankly it was only $30 more for a new JDM bumper vs a used USDM bumper in poor shape. Oh and it was paid for by selling my fogs, so I thought the whole process was great.
The corvette was the first session of my first full HPDE, and happened pulling into pit lane at VIR. Apparently I was a jackass to stop for the ~35 cars being held in front of me so the next run group could roll out on track. The driver in the corvette on the other hand "heard one of the cars in the next run group behind him" and looked into his rear view instead of all the parked cars in front of him. Next thing I know I'm looking down at the pavement and a bit confused. He tossed me $1k to help with repairs, but it still cost me another $800 out of pocket after that.
I don't feel very bad about tracking it, as I would learn later, thats a better place to push the car. Besides its a BLAST to drive as fast as you can w/ someone in the passenger seat telling you how to go faster.
