I am installing a 98 blacktop, but will not be completing the install for another couple of weeks. My front clip came with an ECu marked

622371050f00

I have read in several places that this is an older ECU and will not work, does anyone know for sure.....or could someone with this same type of set-up let me know what their numbers look like

Thanx

That is my understanding of the situation. The motors are all the same, but the harnesses and ECU's are not. Checkout my website for all the information I have found: Cyberkreig.tripod.com/project/

The only difference on your motor (the type X or X type, i dunno) is the pin outs for the injectors....i think you can just switch a couple wires around or change injector plugs, i'm not sure....send yury at heavythrottle an email.....maybe that only works if you have a red top harness too

a 98 blacktop would be an s14 motor correct with vvt? i dont think a red top ecu would work. But from what ive heard s13 redtop and blacktop ecus are interchangable.

aghhh...

S14's are s14 sr20det's

s15's are s15 sr20det's

neither are refered to as "BlackTops" since they ALL have a black cover....

S13's have two diff colors, so are differentiated by calling "redtops" and "blacktops"...

A "Blacktop" in any reference should/is always representing a S13 Blacktop SR20det...

Sooooo, being that people seem to forget that, and call anything a "Blacktop" with a blackcover, i have no idea.... I thought he meant s13 since he said blacktop, and thats why i responded like i did....But I cant really tell you for sure what he is talking about, since he wasnt very specific...

I hope everyone has gotten jesse's point about the ECU's bein different. Now let me try to make my point again. Jesse is right Redtop and Blacktop are interchangeable. EXCEPT the TypeX Ecu. Type X ecu needs TypeX harness. TypeX harness needs TypeX Ecu. Or you need to re-wire the harness to match the ecu. BTW, It is not the injectors it is the coilpacks.

Who did you get your clip from? Call them and tell them you want the right ECU. Interweb information has it that the only changes between the redtop and blacktop S13's were "minor ECU changes." You might want the newer ECU. And since it's from the internet, you KNOW it's true. :rolleyes

the correct blacktop ecu should say E5 instead of 62. 62 is a redtop ecu.

Well, I got the front clip from JDMRECYCLER and they suppossedly start all their front clips before selling (I don't know if thats work anything), but I did contact them, and they were kinda rude. They asked if I had even tried to start it. The point is I won't even try to start this engine for a month or so because I have a really busy schedule right now, so later they'll probably tell me why I waited so long, its a lose lose situation.

I forgot to say that today when I was rewiring the harness, I found a label on the harness itself which has the number 62 stamped on it? Does this mean this is for a 62 ECU, and if so how come my vehicle ID tag on the cip says this is an RPs13 1998?
