I once had a 1962 VW beetle with a 6 volt electrical system. It wouldn't start in wet weather if I let it sit for more than a few hours. A sharp mechanic replaced the shielded plug wires with simple copper ones. I probably pissed off every nearby radio listener, but the car always started.

I sold it three months after I bought it.
Paid $1500.00 for it and sold it for $1000
I'm still pissed 50 years later
That was my first and last Ford
Two Ford Dealers could not find the root cause even after the wires, rotor, plugs, condensor, coil, points, distributor cap were replaced. It ran fine when the sun was shining

I was still delivering newspapers which was how I saved the money to buy it. (Long Island Press) A customer had a 1940 Pontiac and felt sorry for me after I told her the story. She sold me the Pontiac for $35.00
Had it for a year. It smoked and burned a quart of oil every few hundred miles even though I was using 50w oil.It had 6 volt electrical system and the AM radio had a vibrator (not the kind you are thinking of) to chop the 6v to step up to AC voltage. Very noisy but we had the WMCA good guys and Alan Freed on WINS on the radio. 5 push buttons on an AM radio a stick shift on the column and the starter was a metal rod above the gas petal that when pressed activated a lever on the other side of the firewall engaging the starter. It also had running boards
Next came a 53 Studebaker also a 3 speed stick, then a 55 Chevy, after that a 53 Cadillac.
Drafted into the Army and bought my first VW 66 beedle in Germany. Next came a 69 VW beedle, a 74 Mazda RX 4 rotory engine, a 1980 VW Rabbit Diesel, 1988 Mazda 929, a 1992 Lexus ES 300 5 speed manual and last but not least my 2006 Infiniti G35
So there is my vehicle history. Wish I had taken more pictures with my Kodak brownie camera

But I did take these of my 55 Chevy

Well a friend took this one

Awesome! My dads a vet. I was born in germany as we were stationed there, Army. I don't remember much of it.

Ford is as ford does. Your opinion is the same as mine. Quite the vehicle history. 53 studebaker should of been the keeper. 1940 pontiac sedan or coupe?!

Most reliable, best value car I've ever owned.....1990 Taurus Wagon!! :mike
Had fewer issues with it than ANY Nissan/Infiniti I've ever owned! :chuckle:
Owned it for about 10 yrs during my dark days of automobile ownership where I needed something that would hawl baby strollers and playpens!
Guarantee I had more problems with the 84 Dodge Daytona Turbo Z POS I owned!
Got rid of it in less than 1 year.....and I bought the POS NEW!
So, yeah, I can sympathize.

I want one of those radios.

:naughty:

Cool cars. I think of all the cars I've had, the one I would really like to have back is the '68 Charger with the 440 6bbl. That car was nothing but a ball of torque.

Wow....we have come a long way electronically. Can you imgine what people in the 50's would have thought about an iPod? I had to help around the house all week to get enough allowance to buy a couple of 45s.

Groovy! :chuckle:

I still have every 45 I bought and most of the albums. I framed my Meet the Beatles, Doors, Jimi Hendrix and Young Rascals albums and have them hanging in my exercise room. I read somewhere that you should surround yourself with things you love so that room is full of stuff like that to keep me motivated.

This is on my wish list

http://www.amazon.com/Technica-ATLP120- ... 778&sr=1-3

I already converted almost all my 45's to MP3 and have them on my Ipod and backed up on hard drives. Lots of Doo Wop 45's. I have almost all the beatle albums as well as doors, stones, Traffic, Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley,Ray Charles, mothers of invention, etc and many many others. I want to copy them to mp3 when I have time
When I first started buying records in the 50's was about the time of the changeover from 78 rpm to 45's. Songs were available for a few years on both. Then the 78's went away and around 58 the 33 rpm long play came out. Next came stereo, 1/2 track and 4 track reel to reel tape. Cassette tapes, 8 track, 4 channel stereo. I still have my Heathkit 50 watt amplifier that I built around 1960.
I'm not so sure if it really was the good old days.
I love my Ipod and am looking at an IPAD.
All I do is keep buying stuff
When will it ever end?

I like having all my old records, but don't care anything about listening to them. I like new music. Went to go see Theory of a Deadman and Saving Abel this weekend. I love Theory. They were great in concert. I can take oldies for a little while, but not long.

This is how close I was. Saving Abel guy actually took my hand and winked at me. Thank God for bad lighting.. :chuckle:

I'm getting an iPad for Christmas (or hubby is dead). I hope I have enough sense to figure out how to use it.
