Hi, I want to install a trunk support into my s13 coupe and heard that s13 convertibles have a trunk support. I was wondering if someone would be nice enough to take a picture, or several pictures of it, so I know where to install mine.

Thanks!

I'll take a pic for you when I get within pic distance of my car again... (its about 80 miles away right now!, and I might not get a good chance to visit for another month)

I'll take a look at the convertible supplement to the FSM and see if there is a pic there for you...

Sorry for the crummy quality in the pics. I don't have my photo program reloaded yet. But I'm assuming you meant these supports? or at least the way they mount in the trunk?

You probably can't install them because the convertible has extra stamped steel welded in place for the supports to be bolted to.

here are the added structural reinforcements added to the car

The second one didn't come out as well. It was inked lightly in the FSM...

What I want to know is why you would want to go to such a length to get the convertible trunk lid on the coupe. It doesn't quite make sense to me. Especially cause it's so costly to do

O, the reason for it was a practicality issue (if I could have done it for a low price).

I swapped an 89 240sx trunk (which was very light) for a 93 240sx trunk (which was very heavy). I got the 93 for the spoiler so I didn't have to drill holes in my other trunk (see picture in my sig).

The problem with this new trunk is that since it is so heavy, the normal trunk support does not always hold up the trunk, so it sometimes falls down and hits me in the head or shoulder depending on what I am getting inside the trunk.

Also, when I pop the trunk from inside, the trunk doesn't always pop up because it is so heavy, even teh torsion bars do not lift it.

I read that the strut supports themselves were only $20 each at pepboys from another post. However, it now seems that that will only work if I have the right support bars, whcih I don't.

Back to the drawing board. I'll keep these pictures as references. I already see a certain set up that I can devise since this is not an immediately necessary mod, I'll do it slowly.

Thanks for the fsm pics, they help out a lot.

FSM's rock :) what you could do is try to get ahold of some thick aluminum or steel and try to create the brackets yourself. With a little finesse, love from the bandsaw, and a welder, you could feasably make and install the supports yourself, but I don't know how comfortable you are with fabbing your own parts.

Also, the big cost is the gas strut assembly. Convertibles have one for themselves that are shorter than the other 240 gas struts IIRC. What also might be cheaper is to find a carbon fiber replacement. You'll get the lighter weight, but you will have to find a way to get your rear deck lip on it. Good luck!
