Anyone running 225/50 tires on 17x8 wheels? I would like to see if there's any kind of stretch in the tire and what it looks like. Please post some pics if you're running this combo, thanks much!

Well, 225mm is just under 9 inches, so you shouldn't have to worry about stretching. Should work fine with those wheels.

You're right, 225mm is just under 9", however many 225mm tires don't actually measure 225. I've seen some 225 tires w/ a low sidewall ratio on 18x8 wheels, and they look horrible, fairly stretched out, I'm trying to avoid that look. Thanks much!

i have the 18x8 G35 wheels w/ 225/40's and they are stretched a little more than what i prefer, but i had just bought the tires for my 18x7's. i would recommend getting 235's.

I'm running 225/45's on my 18's and I don't mind them, but I could see where you would want a little more, so you may want to go with 235's like jltibbs said.

Thanks for the comments guys. Yeah, that's what I was afraid of! The widest part on a 225 tire measures @ just about or slightly under 9", the tread width is 8" or less. The 8" wide wheel measures 9" from the outside of both lips. So when mounted, the wheel is acutally wider than the tire itself, giving you that stretched out look, even though it's not really stretched. And the lack of rim protection sux too ... 235 it is I guess .. urgh

I have 225/50/17s on my I30 and the "puff" just a little maybe 1/4-1/2". The rims are 17x7s.

I'd say you'd be safe since the 50 series sidewall is pretty tall and should provide a decent distance for the stretch to be spread over.

If you went down to a 40 series then I'd worry.

I highly recommend the RE040s from the 350Z. You can get them for a good price and they have excellent handling. They wear quicker than touring tires, so don't expect more than 25k out of them with normal driving.
