I noticed that Enjuku Racing is selling a HKS wastegate actuator. I was wondering if anyone was using this and what there thoughts were. It seems like a reliable way to raise boost. Hell for only $55.00 why not?

Anyone?

Thanks,

Big Perm

I think it raises it to like 11-13psi, that's a little high if you ask me. At least for pump gas here in California. Just make a boost controller if you want it higher.

the pump gas in our town is 93 octane. i just installed mine today and am running 11 psi with it. I like it cause you have a bit of control over the amount of boost you run, although you still have to disconnect the arm, screw it in tighter and then reconnect the arm. drive the car to see if you aimed properly and then let the car cool down if you need to change it again.

Thanks guys!

Tenkawa,

Nice to see someone else from Roanoke. I would love to see the conv. sometime. I live at the base of Mill Mountain.

The wastegate actuator seems like a good mod for the money. I will probably go with it. THis year is the SR, next year will be a tubo upgrade and probably boost controller at the same time.

so can I make the HKS wastegate actuator boost the same as stock? Is it that adjustable?

F150, the way it works is that the arm comes in two pieces. The outer sleeve screws onto the inner rod, and you can adjust the spring tension by tightening and loosening the sleeve. The unfortunate side effect of this is that you have to remove the actuator arm from the wastegate and then reattach it. Then you have to drive the car to see what your boost is running, and then you get to either shove your hand on a burning hot manifold and turbo to readjust it to your preference or wait for the engine to cool down enough that you won't melt your fingers off. It's a tedious way to control your boost, but it's cheap.

I read about the HKS wastegate's minimum boost is 12 psi.

I have one and I love it. MUCH better than my dual stage TurboXS manual boost controller. IIRC, setting it the same length as stock give you about 10-12 PSI. I have mine set at about 13-14 psi. It does not leak boost like the stock one. It does not spike either.

btw - projectnissan.com has them for $52.50.

How much spike is normal? To run like 10 psi mine has to spike up to like 15psi. My turbo to o2 housing gasket leaks which I think might be the cause of the excessive spike, but is it even excessive?

When I first put it on, I had set it to 9 and had to go back in and tighten it down to get it to 11. I'm probably gonna leave it there until I get a new fuel pump

I just put mine on and I can't get it to boost past 7psi. I have the sleeve adjusted so there is no slack and the wastegate door is pulled completely forward. How do I get it to boost 14psi?

Make the rod shorter so that you have to pull it into place (pretension). I would only go 1 or 2 turns at a time though.

it's a long and arduous "tuning" phase. You gotta tighten the arm and then drive the car to see where you've aimed, then you gotta let it cool down, adjust if necessary, drive, repeat.
