ive thought up a master scheme for a economically right intake, using a k&n fipk (gen I) and insulating the piping, hopefully ill think of a way to make a heat sheild somehow as well. is anyone else using a set up like this or have any suggestions?

im just thinking about getting something other than a complete ijen kit or what not.

o and anyone have any comments about hks intake vs. k&n fipk?

cheers br

i have a comment. they're both over priced and over-rated. just get your self a cheap kit off of ebay.

the fipk for the 1990 is just an airbox replacement (generation I), unlike an injen or generation II which come with the entire intake tract and sometimes a heat sheild.

i was just going to wrap up the stock intake tract leading to the airbox with isulation from the hardware store with zip ties under the theory of keeping heat from the block away. the performance due to that would be slim to none (hopefully not none) but for the price its worth a try. 2ft x 3-4ft isulation will cost less than $7...no shame in trying..

but youre wrapping plastic, not metal. u would be better off getting the metal made and wrapping that-more air flow-might need a safc for that thougj...

I just bought a ebay intake and was thinking it would be junk but it actually is pretty nice. Everything fit fine. It was a Bomz racing. It says it is directly from Japan but on the box it says made in China. It didn't come with a filter so I just got an APC from the local parts store. The main thing I've noticed from the intake is the sound. Wow, who needs an exhaust! It growls when you get on it. I also noticed when I removed the stock intake resonator that it was full of dirt, sand, cigarette buts, candy wrappers, and much more. Now that I think of it, you could have a sort of cold air intake just by removing the stock intake resonator. It is outside of the engine bay and the air that would go in those pipes would be outside air. Try it and see what you think. You have to take the front inside fender plastic thingy off to get to it and then 3 bolts to get it off. It won't hurt anything. Your idea of insulating the intake pipe I don't think will do any good. It's your money though.
