Well I just installed my avic-930bt and I couldn't be happier. The only problem is that I want to use all of its capabilities and that means $$ :naughty: Like sirius, a back-up camera, and i've even considered hooking my xbox up to it lol

Right now I'm looking for rear view cameras because recently on campus I've had a few close calls trying to back out in the packed parking lots and out of my driveway at night (neighbors are always having parties and people line the streets)

So I was wondering if anyone is using or has ever had any experience with pioneer's universal camera.

I'm not looking to find the cheapest camera because I don't want the sacrifice the picture quality, plus I have some tax money to burn. I've found this camera for about $140 and thats fine with me, but if there are other comparable options or better brands I would like to check them out too. The reason I like this one is that I know it will be a direct plug and play for my HU since it's the same brand.

Also where are you guys running the wire for your cams? I would really not want to drill any holes in my trunk, but I haven't REALLY looked for a place to run the wire I just thought I would ask.

thanks guys

I used a Boyo VTL license plate frame camera on my A/C. The image was spectacular in any light conditions. I would highly recommend it. The connection was via a single RCA composite cable (which should be able to connect to any HU). Also, I ran the cable through the light bar on the trunk:

I did have to cut a small notch in the plastic light cover:

If you remove the trunk liner on the interior, the cable would come in roughly here:

Then, you can just run the wires along the stock wiring in the trunk through the boot into the driver's side of the car. Once you have the trunk apart this should make more sense.

That's nice, only one wire to sorry about. Where would you recommend buying this from?

I think they sell them on eBay/Amazon. Though crutchfield also carries them. And there are a couple of wires the run in that cable. I believe there is the video, power and ground. But I found it was easiest to tap into power/ground near the head unit, so all the wires running to the same spot was acceptable to me.

Yeah that makes sense, I've found some good grounding spots while I was doing the HU install. I was doing some research and read a few reviews of how it's not water tight and people had some issues with the lens fogging up and getting hazy. How long have you had yours installed?

I don't have it anymore (sold the car). I installed the camera in the spring of '08. Just took it out a little over a month ago. Occasionally the camera gets dirty, so I would have to wipe it clean very now and again. But that was really the only upkeep required. I just checked and mine was model number VTL350, fwiw.
