Stopped at my local AutoZone today and bought an Optima battery for the '92Q...while I was headed to the checkout I ran by the "additives" section. Passing by I noticed that Lucas makes a synthetic version of their additive. I've been sold on Mobil1 exclusively for all of my vehicles. Now that the Q is getting up there in mileage (185k), I am considering using this. Any thoughts?

Wow - that was a great link. Kind of cool to know that Lucas makes oil foam like that. I'm suprised that I haven't heard a lot of bad comments about it before.

it's the same how slick 50 was touted as a miracle additive years ago,,,without unbiased testing it's hard for the average person to see through the marketing campain. the infomercials are very convincing and cater to all of us "car fanatics". we all want our cars to run the best they can and last a long time. i can't prove it or anything,,,but years ago when slick 50 was still kinda new (and you had to shake it up before you poured it into the crankcase-----should have been a red-flag right there!!!!) i put it in my first car, a 76 olds cutlass supreme-V8 4 barrel with around 90k miles. very soon after it threw a rod and destroyed the engine. maybe just coincidence,,,who knows. was running fine before the slick 50. stick to this site (and the link above) for unbiased info. well worth it.

I first used Lucas additives in my race engines back in 1993 with no problems! I got longer life out of bearing and piston rings also plus I got a lot more passes on the engine before oil changes. This was with a 15:1 compression 4 cylinder race engine which normally had to replace rod bearings every 30-40 passes down the track but, now I was getting 50-60! Bob try's to prove his point but, I don't recall his test ever being performed under actual engine running temps. Right! or Wrong! You can't say that heat doesn't play a big factor in this equation! Your engine doesn't stay the same Temp. from the time it's started to the time it driven!

Oil and BG MOA* can make a Q last 305,000 miles if you change oil frequently why would any other additives be required.

Now once the engine blue smokes anything can add a few months even Mac D used fry grease.

* MOA used to just add Zinc to oil which has been "deZINCED" to increase catalytic convertor life...............not nearly the problem with the Q's 2 precat dual main cat design..........lesser cars skimped on number of cats so more sensitive to contamination as are newer dual designs [after 1993]
