I know the Q's are already quiet on the inside, but I was thinking about using Dynamat in the doors and trunk of the Q. Has anyone used this product? Pros / Cons?

Used it for audio reasons. Not in my Q though.Worked great in my other car. There might be cheaper solutions? I dunno

Used dynamat in my 86 Civic hatch when I installed the waaaaaay overpowered stereo in it. Lined the doors, rear fenders, parts of the hatch and the glovebox to get rid of annoying rattles from too much bass. Didn't notice if it really made things quieter inside when not listening to the stereo. But damn does it do wonders for rattles and such. I even put some small strips on the rear license plate, although that was wasted effort...

Search in the archives. Some used soundcoat and some used dynamat.

Of course, the 1995 was even quieter than the LS400.

I've used it and it works well. It can get expensive if you cover an entire surface. For example, covering the entire trunk of the Q would cost about $300. You can use it in select spots and get nearly as good results.

From my days int he mid-80's doing competition level car audio work, it will work for basic sound dampening and vibration reduction. There are other similar products out there for less. Look for brown bread or butter or something liek that ??? it's been a long time. Or even just search ebay for dynbamat and see what "off-brand" products show up.

Ultimately, I don't think it's going to do much for what you're describing, but the best way to find out is to try it yourself. Applying it to vertical or inverted surfaces can be a bear, so take your time, work with small sections and apply the vertical sections from the bottom up, easing the backing away from the adhesive side.

Dynomat is very heavy and is very expensive. Ice and water shield works great also. You can get it at home depot, lowels or ace. It comes in rolls. It's what carpenters use behind windows, doors, etc.

I agree with the others. It's good for rattles and vibration but for sound insulation you might be beter off with stick on insulation which is available in many forms. the Ice/water shield would work good. Maybe it's the same thing but I've used some silver bubble wrap looking stuff that had an adhesive back that worked will for sound insulation. Found that at the hardware store. Much cheaper than dynamat

go on ebay and look up bquiet or fatmat, both are equal to dynamat and cost a lot less. I'd stay away from the ice shield stuff as it has a funky smell to it and I wouldn't want my Q to smell wierd.

I highly dought your going to smell it when the panels, etc are on it. It does have a smell, but only when you put your nose to it. Besides, I've used it on 10 cars and have had no complaints. Maybe your thinking of a different kind.

I bought a door kit from Best Buy (Worst Buy), this week and used about half of it on my work truck ('93 Ford Ranger). That thing had more rattles than my grandpa with DT's and Parkinson's syndrome.... Anyway it does wonders, and the 2hr commute is much more bearable (Decatur to LaSalle, IL).I never thought a Ranger door could make a "clunk" sound when you closed it.The only concern that I have w/ the Q is that it might make the doors too heavy and start to sag at the hinges.

Low frequency attenuation is dependent on adding mass to dampen sympathetic resonances.

I think SFQ45 was who used the soundcoat, which is not inexpensive, but works very well. Used in many industrial applications.

Well I'm going to try and not sound like and Elemental Designs fanboy here...(I am one, just don't want to sound like one). but...

eDead products are much cheaper than dynomat. I've used the fatmatt previously mentioned and it sucks compared to edead. also Edead is now butyl based so you wont get that smell somebody else was talking about.

so as maxnix was saying, to battle low freq road noise you need to add mass. all the deadening has to do is make the panel your applying it to heavier. to battle higher freq road noise they have a product called V4, Teklite. not really sure how that works though.

another thing I have to add, my Y33 is the quietest car I've ever rode in by far. the next closest thing would be my inlaws 2003 camry and I think thats only because it has a quieter engine (half the cyclinders hehe).
