Thanks, Andrew

Well I guess that would depend on what kind of mileage you're getting. Are you thinking about taking yours in to complain. What mileage are you recording?

on average I get about 14-16 mpg and on good days 17-18~ I'm aware our gas mileage isn't the greatest but coming from driving an suv, I'm not too bothered. Hoping some mods and cleaning will improve it though~ Whats your average mileage? Doubt dealer will do anything unless there was a problem with the car...

Honestly man i filled it upp all the way untill some gas gushed out b/c the tank doesnt always show filled up. Anyways, im at like 117 miles and a little under the half tank. I think this is terrible. I dont drive crazy either. I try to always change round 3k rpm. I dunno what to say. The reason why i asked about taking it to the dlr is b/ci have bmpr to bmpr until august.

Thanks for all help

I average 400-410km's a tank on 91. That equates to around 248 miles.

I pretty much do all city driving. And I consistantly drive it like I stole it.

I gave up on complaining about mileage. I brought my 05 into the dealer when I was first concerned.. they found nothing wrong.

Did you guys add any mods and not re-set your ECU?

Yeah, your mileage is pretty bad I would say. I would say take it in.

The MIL [check engine light] will come on if any sensor exceeds [+- 20%] of specified value..................failure to maintain EPA drive test cycle by exceeding 61 mph or using AC/lights will reduce actual MPG............failure to purchase test equivalent gasoline [indolene clear or equivalent] will reduce MPG. Dozens of things [you do] will not allow you to reach EPA sticker ranges.

Dealers have no method of actually testing MPG other than driving and recording actual fuel used................what it is is what it is.

What happens with a V6-3.5 geared to score well on magazine tests against BMW.If MPG concerns you, a nice 1.6 liter I-4 MT may be for you.

There have been numerous threads here about this issue (also oil consumption and the audio system)- and to be honest, it's the nature of the beast. Your mpg is very low though, about the lowest I've seen. I get 19-21 city and 24 highway in very mountainous terrain so if I lived in a flat part of the country (for you that would be Iowa, East TX or Nebraska) it would be better.

Try changing your filter and plugs, using synthetic oils, and Sea Foam on occasion, this should increase your mpg. If you bought the car used, try resetting the ECU by unplugging the terminals overnight. If I'm not mistaken, the G has some artificial intelligence capabilities that begin to read your driving habits. One final thought would be to get taller tires, which reduces your revolutions per km- this may decrease your power and speed, but may give you an extra km or 2 per gallon. Hope this helps.

Apparently Nissan's engineering department isn't lost to the fuel economy issue. Look at this Wiki entry for a VQ25HR.

Nissan updated the VQ line for 2007. The 2.5 L VQ25HR (for "High Revolution" or "High Response") is only available on rear wheel drive vehicles. It produces 225 PS (165 kW) @6800 rpm and 194 ft·lbf (263 Nm) @4800 rpm with a compression ratio of 10.6:1. It has CVTC, microfinished camshafts and redline of 7500 rpm. The intake is a high-flow tuned induction system.

A Nissan Skyline equipped with this engine was used by Nissan engineers to prove it was possible to achieve 1000 km (636.5 miles) on one tank of petrol for an overall fuel economy of 6.14 L/100km (38.3 miles per gallon). Now, a lower weight G25, with a 7AT might be just the ticket. That mileage is about 70% better than I've seen reported for the G35.

One thing I've noticed in the short time I've had my G is that when the gas gauge shows 1/2 tank, there is way more than 1/2 tank left. Every time I fill up, I wait for the low fuel light to come on and there's still 4-5 gallons of gas left in the tank. Make sure you're actually dviding the mileage by the actual fuel consumed to determine gas mileage and don't go by how many miles are shown on the odometer when the tank is half full.

Welcome to the forum BillH2121. Glad you found us.

We've had a couple of threads here about the dangers of running the G too low on fuel. If you are interested, you can search for them, but the bottom line is that doing that may endanger the health of your fuel pump. You might search fuel and by telcoman for some interesting reading about fuel options and economy.

I fill at about a quarter tank.

Welcome to NICO.

it is a 20 gallon tank. When the gas light comes on you should have 5 gal left. if you have navigation, then when the computer says you have 0 miles to go, i find i have about 2.5 gallons left in the tank still.

My avg gas mileage in high altitude has been around 19 MPG and I romp it quite a bit.

I'm between 19-20 for mixed driving (mostly city). I don't always flog it, but I don't drive slow either. On a trip she'll get 24-26mpg.

To the OP, I doubt the dealer will do anything...they will just say that it depends on driving habits.

Well here I am. I am a documentation freak (an old one) and I can tell you my MPG on every tank of fuel since my purchase on 12/31/05. Yes New Years eve is a fun day to purchase a new vehicle.

My last four fillups are as follows:

1 March 08 50657 miles 343 miles traveled, it took 14.494 gal 343/14.494 gallons=23.66 MPG @ $2.95 per gallon regular unleaded

5 March 08 50936 miles 299 miles traveled, it took 13.345 gal 299/13.345 gallons = 22.40 MPG @ $2.97 per gallon regular unleaded

9 March 08 51302 miles 346 miles traveled it took 15.442 gal 346/15.442 gallons = 22.40 MPG @ $2.97 per gallon unleaded regular. HOW COOL WAS THAT! TWO TANKFULS WITH EXACTLY THE SAME MPG.That has never happened to me before in over 40 years.

13 March 08 51604 miles 302 miles traveled it took 13.17 gal 302/13.17 gallons = 22.93 MPG @ $2.99 per gallon regular unleaded

As you can see my MPG is fairly consistant. For those $itching about your MPG:

1- Check your tire pressure in the early morning prior to driving your G. If its not at 38lbs when cold, get a good quality tire pressure gauge and find a gas station that hopefully give free air. Hess does here in NJ2- An air filter is only about $10.00 & if you can't remember when the last time it was changed, it is only a 15 minute DIY job?3- If your hauling around a lot of weight in the trunk, get rid of it. 4- If the wife or gf has gained weight you may want to ........never mind!

My fuel light comes on with about 4 gallons left. At the 1/4 mark I've got about 5 gallons left and after learning about possible fuel pump overheating thats about when I fill up now.

First do items 1 & 2 and report back here. Quiz next Friday

Thanks for the heads-up regarding the fuel pump issue and I appreciate the welcome. Lots of good info on this Board and I look forward to learning from all of you that have experience with the G.
