I just took the V (CVT transmission) to the 1/4 mile dragstrip at Atlanta Dragway last night.

I must say, I was just about the slowest car there, but was also the only stock car there too (not that the current mods available would make a huge difference).

Sadly, the only other stock cars there beside high dollar ones like Porsche 911 Turbos, 07 Lexus IS350, AMG G Trucks, and AMG C 65s were me, a 02 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon? 4.0, 00 Ford Expedition, and a 06-07 Kia Sorento.

It was windy as crap that night (and 28 degrees), and we were racing against the wind (blowing hard at 17mph constantly).

The best 1/4 time the V could do was a 17.894 with a best trap speed of 75.20mph

Funny thing was, a Scion TC only ran a 16.6 @ 81mph with a CAI, and an 06-07 Eclipse GT (V6) only ran a 17.7 @ 77mph with no wheelspin! So the V is running just about the same ET and only 1.5 mph from an 06-07 Eclipse GT trap speed?

I could go on talking about the times other cars ran, but all of these cars have much faster times stock. I guess we could say the same about the Versa but who knows.

To acheive the times that the magazines do, you have to be willing to avuse the car. The key at the drag srip is a fast launch. The magazines have professional drivers, and on automatics, they hold down the brakes as they rev up the engine... IN GEAR. With manual transmissions, they rev the engine fairly high and either dump the clutch or slip it heavily to get the most power to the ground.

I've only run a motorcycle once at the strip and a quite a bit on road courses. If you want to be quick... get a bike, even a used one. I had a 2001 600cc sportbike and ran 12.1 @122 mph. I had a poor launch, but 95HP at the rear wheel on bike that's under 600lbs with rider, makes up for a lot. I never ran my '01 ZX9R on the srip, but it's good for low 11's at over 130. The '07's make around 115HP, the 1000cc machines make around 170HP and weigh even less. You can get a used bike 1000cc machine that will run in the 11's easily for less than you would pay for a Turbo kit on the Versa just to get under 15 seconds.

I have to agree with you.

Before the Versa, I had a Grand Prix GTP modded lightly or so and it was running low 13s high 12s @ 105-110 traps with inexpensive mods (supercharged stock) except for a HD Racing transmission. Was just getting started with it too...

Like you said, the V will be LUCK to run under 15s with the Turbo kit LOL

I was gonna mod mine performance wise, but it's not really worth it. For it to what? Run a 17.0 Flat @ 80mph? Better off saving the money you know? LOL

I'm surprised that the Tc didn't do better. That car is only about 200 lbs heavier than the V and has 160hp.

Got into a street race in Atlanta and ended up beating a V6 mustang in a street track because even though the V has 122 HP, it handles like a beast with the strut bar...

Plus, the girl in the mustang was a bit pissed, and that made it all worth it....

When you have twisties involved, it becomes so much more about the driver.

I recall a couple times beating V6 mustangs and heavily modded AWD Talons with my nearly stock Spectra.

Last auto-x I went to, my raw times with the Versa (completely stock, even on the stock Continentals!) beat out a pair of Fiat X1/9's, an RX8, a Miata, a Scirocco, and a Z06! Moral of this story: good car + bad driver = bad time.
