Saw a commercial on late-night TV for some sort of "rotor-truing" devices... Basically looks like two big arasive pads you put in place of your brake pads, run the rotors up to speed, hit the brakes and *voila!* it grinds off enough material to "re-true" the rotors. They CLAIM (of course) reduced stopping distances and longer brake life (duh)...

I have mixed feelings about this... Any thoughts (from someone more knowledgeable than I)?

I would find it hard to believe that an abrasive brake pad could machine a rotor true enough to elimintae vibration and other problems.

kinda reminds me of the "tornado" intake thingy that was supposed to swirl the air so it mixed better with the fuel...but newer EFI systems atomize/mix the fuel so well, it didnt do crap.-chetedit: qyit watching infomercials!

doesnt sound like a good idea. If you cant machine rotors with hotspots because the blade will jump over the hardened areas caused by the heat and then groove the portion right after them I dont think those would work unless your rotors were in great shape, if at all.

Even with a high end caliper you are going to get some flex when the caliper is engaged. You would have to have some way to keep these 'pads' applying pressure evenly across the firepath of the entire rotor. If you have high spots on the rotor to begin with there is no way you are going to get even pressure and the 'pad' is going to hit and cut unevenly. I highly doubt you can get the same results as using a lathe where the cutting edge is kept stable as it moves across the face of the moving rotor. :rolleyes
