Yeah they can be mounted "in tank" too. Good luck getting that big bastard in your tank!

Is the fuel pump controller really necessary?

well the a1000 is more of a race fuel pump so runs constantly full speed, so if your daily driving yeah its necessary. the pump gets real hot running continuosly so in turn it heats up the fuel.....the fuel pump controller will speed it up or slow it down depending on rpms etc. so if your sitting at a light or stuck in traffic its not just heating up. then it speeds up again when ur on it and the air cools it down.......mines inline there is no way i was fitting it in the tank its not really designed as an intake.

I had one in my 240z. So freaking loud.

Anyway, not the point.

I got mine from a guy, it had been rebuilt. Make sure that pump does not have to pull fuel up hill (mount the pump as low as you can) to keep it from cavitating and overheating.

Worked great for me.

yeah thats where i mounted mine but there isn't a cool breeze in bumper to bumper traffic or in a busy area with millions of traffic lights??? right so its all good if your ripping along all the time and yes its loud as hell....o well

I am going to use my existing fuel pump to feed a swirl pot that the big un will draw from. I didn't know about the controller, I will have to look into that.

i made mine. owning a tig welder is a big plus.

similar to this: http://www.sdsefi.com/techsurge.htmincorporating a filter.only thing different on my setup than that schematic is the pump that feed the surge tank is that my is the in tank style, the stock pump is sufficient for this task, and the post surg tank pump does all the foot work.

yes. and much more. if you are into drifting and autox racing; this is the recommended setup for you. the surge tank setup eliminate the problem with fuel starvation with your stock tank on hard turns; and providing a fuel constant availability. remember, i this setup you are utilizing two pumps. a stock one in the tank and the high volumn pump feeding the rail after the surge tank.

i am currently using a Denso intank pump so that pump would more than cover the fuel supply to the surge tank...now all i need to do is find me a nice inexpensive surge tank...

Wait a second, a surge tank doesn't solve our problem with an A1000 pump over heating while out of a tank on a daily driven car. What shall we dooooo?

depends on the size of your fuel cell, larger ones are basically like your gas tank. using a surge tank added bonus to eliminating fuel starvation.

the surge tank purpose isn't to cool the pump, it's for preventing fuel starvation on hard acceleration or cornering

the aluminum case has built in heat sink which help cool the pump. you shouldn't have problem with it mounted in the trunk. another option is you can mount it under your car, the air will help cool it. but i am not worried having it in the trunk.
