I'm just curious if anyone is running an oil catch can with a side mount intercooler.

I have a catch can just sitting in my room that I kind of wanna toss in my car, but with my side mounted intercooler, I don't know where the heck to put it (not much space on my driverside engine bay).

nope, its not. Mine (as well as every other s13) is right next to my battery (cold side)

we also have PS rez on the hot side too.

PUT IT ON THE COLD SIDE

Just run the wires creatively.

When I was sohc, I just ran the hoses toward the back of the engine bay & routed back to the catch can which sat between the cruise control & fuel filter (there's a few threaded bolt holes there).

Now w/ my dohc (& sidemount intercooler), I relocated my pwr steering & put the catch can there, perfectos.

You can do it, make it happen.

does oil actually make it to the can on that side?

hmmm.. I never though about routing the hoses behind the valve cover (that's what youre talking about right?)

I just don't wanna run the hoses from the front and make it look all tacky and cluttered.

Yea, it travels just fine (the airflow only goes one way for the most part). Remember, the oil blow by or whatnot isn't gushing out of your valve cover, it's pretty much misting out along w/ the air. Just make sure you don't have kinks.

If you decide to install it by relocating the pwr steering reservoir, here's how mine looks (most of the hoses are hidden since I run it below the sidemount piping - of course, you can do a much better job than i did and run it even more low profile & cut the hoses to the correct length):

Just post pictures of your engine bay. You'll get more accurate replies then.

Oil in the catch can usually signals a problem with the motor.

no it doesnt. just like onosqv stated, thats what happens. oil vapors travel with the air coming out of the crankcase. now, if you have alot of oil just spitting out in drops, then yeah... broken ringland, and/or rings.

I wasn't talking about vapors, I was talking about considerable oil accumulation. So yes, it does.
